Cone Engineering's New Meg
17 Oct 2015 11:37
Decided to try something different on my ZRX1100. I have a fully Muzzy stainless system with a carbon fiber oval can. Looked at Cone Engineering again as I liked the reverse cone I have on my KZ900 project bike. Turns out they have released a new meg style can.
Slipped on, it is nasty sounding! Very angry. Just have to TIG on some mounting tab and a clamp and it will be done.

Thanks for the kind words. They do make nice stuff. The tech rep on the phone didn't like that I welded the KZ one into my Deklvic header, but oh well! Can't wait until my stainless material gets here for so I can finish it up.

Welded, clamped, and bolted in place. Still needs some cleaning up from the welding, but it is good to go for a ride tomorrow.
Still need to figure out if the extra Muzzy badge I bought is going on.....

What would it take to mount a megaphone like that to a Delkevic head pipe? Would an angled pipe need to be fabricated to connect the two?
I'd like to mount a Delkevic with a stainless meg like the one on your ZRX to a KZ1000J.

Really it comes down to fabricating a mount. I use a Cone Engineering Reverse Meg on my KZ along with the Delkevic as seen here.

So the outlet of their mid pipe on the header only kit is 2.5". So you'll need to order a 2.5" Meg. The you can see from the pic of mine, you may or may not be successful in reaching the stock KZ exhaust mounting points. The Meg on the ZRX is 3" longer than the KZ, so it might be long enough to reach. You will have to fabricate a mounting tab and weld it to the muffler accordingly and finally get it clamped to the mid-pipe. There are a number of ways to do this. The two I like are either have a small piece of tubing welded across near the opening, then slot it into the pipe a ways and add a bolt and nut to build a built in clamp. Very clean and secure. Other way is to cut a lengthwise slot as mention above, and use. Stainless steel "T" bolt clamp and clamp it on. Also very secure. It is upto you and Cone Engineering sell all these assorted pierces and parts.
