What is your "Riding Season"?

My wife gave me a queer look this morning as I was gearing up to head to work this morning. It's about 50*f and had been raining like crazy the past few days, oddly, it's stopped long enough to get to and from work. There has been a remarkable absence of motorcycles on the road that I've noticed, fair weather posers.

This is pretty typical here, as soon as the temp dips or there's the slightest chance of inclement weather all the shiney cruisers and crotch rockets hibernate.

I try to ride as often as possible, at least I did the last time I owned a bike. Eventhough Utah is known for its snow it is possible to ride here in the valley at least a few days per month during winter. The only thing that kept me from riding more was possibility of dark hours ice and drivers not expecting to encounter motorcycles at those times of year. Last winter was an exception, it was so mild there were people on their bikes all the time. I wish I'd had my bike then.

I do plan to put the GPz750 "away" in about a month to 6 weeks. But mainly because I want to continue doing work in it. Hopefully, the KZ1000 will be roadworthy during the off season rideable days.

So, when do you guys typically "hang it up" and then "dust it off"?

Our season is just starting in the low desert of Californicate. I have my windshield for rain and bugs. Hardly ever any snow. It gets cold but that's what my Harley jacket (made in CHINA in 87), gauntlets and chaps are for.

Here in North Central Pa it varies from year to year. But for me and my 20 minute work commute; as the morning temps start dipping below 30 degrees is when I hang it up. So to answer you question October and sometimes November. In the spring it is April May time frame.
Thanks,

Pretty much this. When it's freezing out or there is threat of ice on the road, I'm not riding. Otherwise, it's year round for me. Has been since I was legal to ride. There are times that I just don't want to ride though...for example, an extended cold streak keeping the temp close to freezing for days on end. But usually, a 30 degree day thrown in with several 40's or high 30's isn't that much of a bother.

Late March to early November mostly. We often get a thaw between mid December and the first week in January so I ride a bit then if they haven't spread too much gravel due to the early winter snow. I actually prefer to ride with the temps between 40 to 70F. One can always put on more warm clothes. If you are not willing to ride in the rain, you shouldn't own a motorcycle in the Northwest.
Nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.

Yeah, yeah, we're jealous of you Sunbelt dwellers I'm sure you definitely need 2 bikes or you'd never get anything done on them.

Current conditions. it's come up a couple degrees since I came in. Saw a couple of other bikes.

Kinda makes me feel quilt y riding when other guys are snowed in, flooded or something. Then I think of the summers when it just too damn hot to go out there. Too bad I don't still have a girl friend in Dana Point. Spend my summers at the beach and winters here. I'm going to take a weekend ride and visit some old haunts. Maybe I'll get lucky. :woohoo:
