introducing myself
08 Aug 2015 14:33 - 08 Aug 2015 14:35
Hello all,
I just picked up a very nice 1981 CSR 1000. At least it seems to be nice.
Took it in trade for services rendered and I am sure I got the good end of the deal.
Can't seem to find what an actual value on these bikes are.
I will post this question in another spot also, nut what is the difference between the CSR and any other KZ1000 of the same year?
I do have several other bikes,(ya I know, it's a sickness).
I have a 1974 CB750, a 1988 KLR650, a 1985 FJ1100, a 1972 XS650 and of course, now a 1981 CSR1000.
I won't be keeping them all, but it is so hard to let any of them go.
I am 57 yrs. old and live in Wautoma, Wisconsin in the summer and Goodland, Florida in the winter.

Would you like to start your own thread and have me move this or should I move myself?

I didn't realize I did that. But if you would move it, that would be great.
Thanks and sorry about that.

I just picked up a pretty nice CSR1000. I haven't seen to many of these and am wondering what the difference is between it and the KZ1000.
Is it just the riding position, or is there something else? The CSR's seem to be a little more cruiser and the KZ's a little more standard.

Nice bike. I think you're right. It is meant for those who like chrome and a more laid back kind of ride.

Hi Scrpvalue, below is a quite that explains the differences along with an attempt to determine to define 'CSR'.
"I have been trying to find out what CSR means for a while now and this is the best I have come up with. According to some, the SR stands for Street Roadster and the the CSR stands for Custom Street Roadster. Sounds good to me but it's definitely not gospel.
I have also been trying to find out what LTD means. Some say it's short for Limited and others claim it's Luxury Touring ??? The main difference between the CSR and LTD is the wheels, LTD's had mags and CSR's had spokes. Some CSR models had one front disc brake and a rear drum brake but I don;t know if that varied from year to year or as the CC's increased. All I know for sure is that my wheels are aluminum spokes with dual discs up front and single disc at the rear.
Any information on the specifics of the LTD and CSR are welcome.

The 81 CSR 1000 is a KZ1000-M1. There was also an M2. Most CSRs had wire spoked wheels.
CSR models are similar to Ltds in that they have extra chrome & 16" Rr wheel with a fat rear tire.
Value-wise I don't think there's anything special about the 1000-CSR, except that it is a KZ1000.
Some guys prefer wire spoked wheels, cruiser riders in particular, so that's a marketing consideration, if you plan on selling it.
