Does it make sense to own 2 identical KZ650's?

I've come across another 79 KZ650 for sale in my area and have met the owner. It's exactly the bike I currently own, paint, year, cc, however it's been modified from stock with an 80's Kerker exhaust, pods, jets, drag bars, and a few other things. The bike is in good condition with similar miles, being offered around $800, with some of the stock parts that were taken off the bike. I'm thinking this would make a good bike as a cafe racer or bobber project (something I'm interested in). While keeping my current bike purely stock.

What do you boys think about the idea?

I think we all know the answer to that question...

It only stops making sense after a dozen or so.

I like the idea! If you're interested in modding a bike it makes great sense to me to buy one that already isn't stock and mod it rather than messing with the nice stock bike you already own. Also, since it's identical, you may find some parts on it that are in better condition than the same parts on your stock bike, and if you do you could swap those parts so your stock bike has the best of everything. I bought my second kz1000 over thirty years ago , it had been rear ended by a cage ,nice to have spare parts, finally got around to swapping engines last winter.
Now I can take my time rebuilding the original engine.
I have also accumulated enough parts to rebuild the second bike back up if I want to .

Go for it ! B)

Just heard back from the seller, sad news, the bike was sold on Monday. $810 with extra parts (original 4-2 exhaust. Queen Anne seat, handlebars, airbox, highway bars, and a few other misc). I knew about this bike for 3 weeks and didn't move on it fast enough. Bike had a clutch/gearbox problem.

Nothing wrong with buying another if the opportunity arises. I have 4 KZ650s, 3 of which are even the same color.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

It would be nonsense not to own at least two of your favorite zed if you can.

Maybe one fairly original and another tuned and tastefully modified .

Always good to have a few spares.
I was looking in the basement earlier at the 5 tanks I have on a shelf.
