New guy, just acquired a 78 kz1000 z1r

I got the bike dirt dirt cheap, plan was to build a bobber but after finding this Web site not sure I should be cutting the bike up. Has 22000 miles good shape for the most part, cleaned carbs and new points and she runs. .. Looking for little advice on what is worth and or if selling parts as I don't plan on using much of stock parts for the bobber.... Thanks

Please don't cut it up. Fill out your profile and I'm sure someone will get you what you need to make a bobber in trade for your dirt cheap Z1-R.

Why don't I ever find dirt cheap deals

Bingo! Trade for an ltd frame title engine and tank, and build a bobber from that Z1r are nice rarer bikes

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationIf it hasn't already been butchered I would not make a bobber out of it; it is a very desirable and pretty scarce model. That model is worth MUCH more unmodified (see below - those are prices the bikes SOLD at). Sell it and buy one that has already been tortured a bit then fix it up to your own taste.

Got any pictures of the Z1R? Ed

I believe in honest deals. Of course if you paid nothing for a rarish bike you shouldn't have to give it away just because you got a good deal. But if you want to make a bobber, and would rather not cut up a rarish bike, then post up some pics of your score and ask opinions of what it's worth. If its in decent shape you might get what you need and some cash in your pocket. I think most people are willing to pay what something is worth, within reason, regardless of what you actually paid.

Making a Z1R into a bobber is just wrong. You could put a seat on it, and find an exhaust system, remove the luggage rack, either remove the windjammer completely or replace it with a proper windshield, the bike could be pretty cool. I like weathered paint on an old bike if that's what you have to work with rather than a botch repaint job. Could be a nice bike if you just add what is missing, delete the add ons. Just my opinion. I think Ed would agree. Makes two of us. :)
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I'm gonna say it, there are people on here that would buy that from you or trade for it, i have a 80 1000 ltd that i would trade for that. Dont bob it out or part it out, either rock it for what it is (minus the windjammer) or pass it on, let someone have a decent deal or trade for a decent bobber candidate

sorry to hear of your plans to "bob" a z1r.

everybody and their kid sister has a "bobber" ,hell you can make one out of any bike.

z1r's deserve to be in the hands of someone who desires a z1r.

you can easily get $1500.00 out of that bike the way it sets.
