I have a 1982 KZ1100 A2(shaftie) standard. There is not a lot on here as regards to them, are they that dependable or just not popular? Either way I'm loving mine I am just wondering.

There are pros and cons for both shafts and chains, such as maintenance requirements, feasibility of changing gear ratios, cleanliness, ease of "stretching" via lengthened swing-arm, etc.

A properly maintained shaft drive should be VERY dependable.

Touring riders may prefer shaft drive, and especially before the later improved chain designs came along.

Good Fortune! :)
