Bought her a new Bikini
08 Mar 2014 17:13
Got a new bikini fairing for the KZ. Had a Shoei FM-2 faring installed. But always liked the Mad Max look. Its not installed properly at the moment. Need to get a more compact M/C for it to fit. Here is a link of some of the exhaust and cosmetic changes the bike has gone through after the restoration was completed.

Which do you think looks better, naked, Shoei FM-2 or new bikini Phillips-Lockhart fairing? I have to admit, I like naked. But the wind is a pain.

Solid bike.
I like the simple one, without hand guards by a little bit.....hard call.....both have their good points.
I might look into one, after looking at it on your bike, and really liking it.
Take that baffle out of Kerker and live man ........ :silly:

For lower bars the FM3 or FM5 fits better but those are REALLY hard to find

I've got one of the Emgo style and don't like it.
Seemed to cause a lot of wind buffeting around my shoulder's
and my helmet would hit the screen when tucking down behind it.
Also made a extra set of mount's for it.

Thanks for your opinion guys. I'm sure it will look better once I can push the top further back. I had decided to get bikini fairing in order to make the bike look more cafe. Can't say if it does Won't go any further than that. I am keeping my Shoei in case I plan a long trip or get tired of this one.
@4TheKZ1000, I agree. They sound great with an open Kerker. But I remember when I was running a medium competition baffle on my '74 20 years ago. Use to hurt my ears after a 2 hour ride. I admit, I'm a wimp when it comes to that.
@zukdave, Looks good Dave. That's a great idea how you added the extra support. I will have to fabricate something like it.

Joe the mount's are just some 1/4" rod with flat washer's welded on..
I think I'm gonna cut the back flat and make a wall clock out of mine
for the shop.

LOL! Peter read my mind. I can't say much being in Atlanta, but it's still a bit chilly.
