Question for the younger crowd?

Can someone tell me just what the hell a "brat style is"?

Bobber? Got it- "bob" off everything you don't need/want.
Chopper? Been around for ever- "chop the frame" etc.
Café? Possibly older than chopper- used to race from café to café.
Brat? somebody's spoiled child? WTF? :S
Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

Im a old fart but I think it is a way to lighten it up for speed....taking off un-nessary stuff. A way for the owner to personalise it and make it his or her's....one of a kind. A way to show diffferent build skills and think out of the box. Maybe....?

I am of the younger crowd B) ... But have only seen the term used loosely some being more like a chopper and others like a bobber. I think it is mostly like a bobber or like you earlier said a bobber and rat.

Bobber and rat sounds reasonable but I have never heard the term.

A rat ride is something cobbled together from different makes and misc parts, at least that is my understanding from the car crowd

This is cobbled together from misc parts, different bikes and fabbed up parts. I would not call it a "rat" bike though. I think "Brat" bike is just another word for "chopper." But then again I am no longer considered part of the "younger" crowd.

Is it cobbled together from different bikes that are cousins or from different makes completely?

The rat rods for example would be maybe a ford body with a chevy motor a plymouth rear end with a buick steering setup. At least that is my understanding of a rat rod from the car crowd

That is a nice 650 by the way

From what I understand Bratstyle is a uniquely Japanese creation and style (originally) because now its been somewhat commercialized. The bike were low to mid displacement alot of 400's to 650's...bobbed or chopped, fat front and rear tires and from what I can tell they have narrow-set bars that riders could squeeze through the traffic choked streets of Japan.

Back in my day those would be called choppers.
Kawickrice, that red 650 I bought new in 1978 but in 2011 it was totaled in crash. I put it back together with a different frame and parts off other bikes. Thanks for the compliment.
