I work with a guy who claims to have a 9500 motor, if that wirks out im within a few hundred

Not born with but close

If you can find an engine within 200 of the frame number that will put you right in the ball park B)

get the bobber an a reasonable price, put another motor in it and sell it on, then you have a 73 z1. bit long term but its a possible plan.

I would try and buy the bobber also. Sounds like your handy and changing that motor out would not be a problem. Keeping the 73 together can pay off some day when its done. Maybe he would sell the bobber for less $3500 sounds a bit much and it would have to be real nice and have alot of detail work and chrome.
