KZ prices
04 Sep 2012 02:01
There's been a lot of threads popping up with questions about what personal opinions are on what certain old KZs are worth. I know we all have opinions. What I want to know is how can you find the closest thing to real market value on the high end collector bikes? What is a 1982 ELR1000, in fair shape, worth from the original owner?
I may be able to pick up an '82 ELR from the original owner, a friend of mine. The bike has been in an accident that bent the rear shock and megaphone on the right side. I don't know the extent of the damage to any other parts of the bike, like the rear sub frame or swing arm. This was done fairly early on in the game. After replacing the shocks and pipe, he rode it for years afterwards up until '05, when he bought a new ZRX to ride. This guy rides hard and is no stranger to setting a bike up to rail at high speeds. I'm thinking if anything was wrong with the frame/chassis, it would have be brought to light and corrected long ago.
So now the '82 has been ridden by his brother on occasion, enough to keep it running and not rotting.
I've not seen the bike, but it is garage kept. From his description, not what I would call pristine.
I'm thinking if you scaled it on a 1-10, maybe a 6 or 7. Don't know yet.
reason for sell is he was in a pretty bad accident earlier this year on an '05 ZRX that I sold him.
He's pretty banged up and it has taken a lot out of him at 62 years old.

I would make sure it is a real ELR and not a clone. They go for a good price I would say anywhere between $7,500 for a fixer upper to $20,000 for a perfect example with low miles. There was a guy on KZ1000R that was selling an ELR frame for about $5,000 that was just for the frame. Don't know if he sold it or what he really got for it though.

Yes, it's a bona fide dyed in the wool '82 1000R.

Could be big bucks...depending upon many many factors (including those mentioned by trianglelaguna and yourself) I concur with trianglelaguna but up his upper end...to perhaps as much as US$9,000-10,000. If it is truly a 1982 model, then it is the rarest of all the ELR-style models.

ten grand or up is what a decent one goes for
but among friends and such and going dollar rate and need...so many factors
mcdroid is right it is the holy grail
there is one here that has all paperwork and is pristine with extras and one owner..
i barley got a rise when i offered him 10 cash...but he did look to be thinking $$$$ some for a brief second...
i do not have the drive to purchase at present and could not justify so much
but they can be walked onto for 2000----3500----7500 etc...etc...very few sitting tucked away...but you did find one...so did i....there for sure is others

This is a bike I worked on and then helped a friend purchase it. One owner bike. The guy that sold it done a bad job of listing it on eBay and my friend got it for 9 grand.

Does anyone know of a good link to 1000R websites? The KZ1000R.com site comes up as an attack site. It wouldn't even come up last night. :silly:
