Selling Loved Ones...Opinions?
25 Jul 2012 22:38
All,
To give a little back ground, my dad used to flat track Triumph TR6's and Bonneville's back in the 60's & 70's. Grew up with these british twins. Fast forward, brothers with Speed Triples (2004 & 2012) and little old me with a ZRX, SV1000, and now the KZ900 project. I have lusted after the 2002 Triumph Daytona 955i "Centennial Edition" which only 200 were made. Basically, it was the combination of the best 2002 updates (geometry, fairing, engine, lighter, etc...) but retained the single sided swing arm and black wheels. The same can be said of the "Special Edition". Well I cam across a 2002 SE that appears to have been repainted quite a while ago due to a low speed-low side. The bike is nice, about a 8/10 for its age and I am thinking about a repaint and making it a 10.5/10. The problem is, I don't have the funds, which means a bike has to be sold in order to buy it quickly.... Well I love my ZRX and is just too nice to give up. That means my SV1000 would have to go.
I love this bike and it is truly one of a kind. Perfect condition, full hooliganism..... What do you think about selling a bike you have put your soul into for prospect of another? A perfect bike for a bike that needs attention? Thoughts?

If it means getting the bike that you truly want than I'd do it. While it means giving up a bike that you have put your soul in to it also means getting something that you truly desire.

Motorcycles and women are the only 2 things you can get rid of to get another
and love the new one in a completely different way. ther will be things
about the new one you are amazed by and miss the nuances of the old one but if you have more than one all the better.
we cant afford to keep them all believe me I have tried

Ding dong the zuki's gone!
Ive got a 98-99 sv650 I bought probably 5 yrs ago sitting in back of barn that Ive put a total of probably 100 miles own since owning it,just cant handle the styling myself.
I wouldnt think twice about using its suspension under a kz650 if I had the time to do it.

If you think you will regret selling it, don't. If you want both bikes but can only afford one, ask yourself which one you'd take home with you if you had no bikes and you could have one for free. Go for that one.

I don't think I can pass up the opportunity for the Triumph. If I had the cash, I would then have 4 bikes in the garage... so I'll put the SV up...only to a good home!

Those are just bikes you buy...wait until you have to sell one you built. THAT'S when it hurts.
At some point in time, everything will show up on Ebay.

I did build this one..... Anyway, it is up for sale now. The KZ900/ZRX will not go up for sale.

Not bikes, but cars. Fabricated body panels from flat sheet by hand for vintage autos that did not have any market support. Used to work for Muscle Car Restoration in Chipeawa Falls, WI. Six figure restorations and customs. Just finished doing a frame off on a '69 Camaro for my brother, as it was simply bond holding hands. Made body templates agains other '69's that I found, and transferred them to my fabricated panels for the car. Would have gone faster if I had an english wheel....
The KZ will be the first bike I take to that level.

All,
After riding the bike to show a couple of potential buyers, I have decided not to sell it. I love it too much and can't give it up.
