Its Time to move one of my projects to get A Triumph.
The deal I am working on is this, My 1975 Kawasaki Z1 900B + $1000
from the seller for A 1977 Triumph 750 Bonniville.

I hate to see my Z1b go but will enjoy the Triumph.
No photos of the 1977 yet, I will post some this weekend.

ah....dont know what to say.....seems buying a brit twin no trade would solve the dumping the Z1 problem

you wont ever regret anything more than losing your early yrs Z

i have sold many many kz,gpz,z1r,MKII,gs,xs...etc....etc...

and except for the xs only ever regret selling Z1's

the other a tiny bit

but your Z1 is gonna sting some

That's a right poor trade in my opinion. Having owned my British bike (BSA) for 11 years before buying my KZ650 I can tell you from long term experience the British bikes look nice but are crap for reliability, speed, braking, comfort, need I go on.......? BTW, same is true of British cars (Austin Healey 3000 as my only car for 7 years). ;) Six months after the trade you will wonder what possessed you to do it. Ed

My brother is a Triumph fan and multiple owner and his mate is die hard Triumph man, but neither will bloat about the quality of the old twins. The early Hinckleys are splendidly made, but not them Meriden machines. They vibrate badly, will not tolerate high rpm for long, usually leak oil, feature Prince of Darkness electrics and were never really good. Why they earned such popularity is hard to tell, just as it's hard to tell why Harleys are so popular. Well, not that hard, really; they were both top performers in the '50s and the reputation stuck. Then it turned into nostalgia. But unless you have ridden the actual Bonnie in question and dream lustfully of it at night, I'd suggest you look elsewhere for a replacement.

I think most people that have loeved and owned Triumphs been circumventing the quality issues by purchasing one of the current or late models. I hear the new generation of Triumphs are reliable with up-to-date technology but have kept the traditional look. Even the carburetors look like the old ones. But they are faux carburetors and the bike is actually fuel injected. They even come cafe style right from the dealership. Just food for thought.

DO NOT DO IT! My first bike was a 3 year old 1962 BSA Big Valve Super Rocket model A-10. My second bike was a brand new 1966 BSA Lightning A65. They were both unreliable pieces of crap!It took the Japanese to build reliable British style motorcycles.I would take a Z-1 over any Brit bike except a Vincent Black Shadoe.

Go for it. If your bike was original then I would say keep it but even though it looks great it has lost much of it's value with the paint job, seat, wheels and exhaust. I have a 73 Bonnie and love it. Never has left me stranded buy maybe because I have upgraded the electronics. Not the fastest thing on the road but nothing I ride or drive gets more attention. When I want to go for a peaceful ride and enjoy the scenery that is the bike I grab. When I want to raise hell and scare myself a little the KZ gets the job done.

I'd say the same thing. It depends how the other bike is of course. An original triumph is a pretty cool bike. If it's all ratted out though, no use in the swap.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
