The plug-in electric vehicle hype always cracks me up. They always say "IT's GREEN!" Well, the last time I looked coal is black, not green, and coal is what the power company in my area uses to fire its generators.

Agreed, all you are doing is centralizing your pollution and putting another middleman in the equation.

Hey! That's my cycle!
As far as eco-friendly goes, electricity can be made from all sorts of different sources - hydro, coal, nuke, solar, wind, whatever. I charge mine at home with energy from the grid through a renewable energy program (mix of wind and bio-gas) I did the math once on the equivalent energy use of the cycle. It clocked in at the equivalent of 320 miles per gallon.
Two very cool things on this cycle - NO shifting (no tranny, direct drive) and FULL TORQUE instantly! You don't need to rev an engine to get power - it just goes!
It's a great fun cycle for around town. I also have a gas Kz440 in my garage that I'm working on fixing up.
If you aren't into EV cycles that's fine, but if you get a chance to see a Brammo or Zero or other commercial electric motorcycle, try it out! They're a blast!

A local high school did something like that with a old Suzuki. It looked a lot like the original bike, they stored the charging "extension cord" in the gas tank and would pull it out of the tank when it needed a charge. Was cool to see high school kids do something like that - made me wish my high school hadn't been such a waste of space.
