How do you deal with the cold?
19 Dec 2011 17:11
Personally I dress in layers and freeze my butt off. I only have a mesh jacket so it breathes great during HOT summer months here in Florida. Believe it or not it does get cold here in winter. Not like up north but add speed, fog and no fairings you get numb. Just wndering how people on here handle their winter riding.

I sit on the bike in the garage with the propane heater running going "vroom vroom" while watching race videos on the projector screen on the wall.

I wouldn't consider riding a bike that didn't have a windscreen. They do a lot to keep the rider more protected and carry along a pocket of somewhat warmer air.

I've ridden all winter for 36 straight years now. Get the warmest gloves you can, a good helmet that the shield won't fog. Arai makes a pinlock shield that works for this, but only works on an Arai helmet I would assume. Get a good riding suit and dress in layers under it and/or Gerbing heated gear. Good waterproof boots finish it off. Temperature doesn't bother me, of course no sense riding in ice as danger of getting run over should you take a spill is 100x what it was 36yrs ago. I like riding in cold weather strange as that sounds. I don't mind even riding when the temp is zero or so if there is dry road.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

WOW cudos on the 0* I cant ride for fear of Ice and the fog is no fun. The brisk rides in the winter are fun as long as you arnt riding in the rain or to far from home.

I ride all year in Ohio. If you have never tried it you should. Very refreshing and comfortable if you dress correct....Russ

Amen to that

ahhhhh but then there's the occasional snowball fight with the grandson

I also just bought a couple of RC helicopters that you can fly in the house... The dog doesn't think much of them however... :pinch:
