KZ 1100 and CSR 1000 Question

Hello

I am brand new to this forum, and very new to motorcycles. In fact I have yet to buy my first bike :P

After looking at two different bikes for sale, I was hopping you guys could give me your thoughts. Currently I have no idea about the model differences between the KZ and CSR bikes other then the cc's.

Here is a link to each bike being sold at a local dealer--also, let my know if his prices are out of whack :S

1981 CSR 1000

1981 KZ 1100
www.internationalclassicmotorcycles.com/...0&Category_Code=MCFS

I greatly appreciate any info or advice you would have for me--I am going to look at both bikes tomorrow

Well actually there are many differences in those 2 Models.
The CSR M1 , smaller gas tank, different frame I believe more steering rake, Standard Shocks in the rear and Forks in the front but with a Leading axle. Spoke wheels, chain drive, cable speedo and tach, I think only a fuel warning light, not sure if they came with a center stand it may have one on it though, but won't Lock with the key in the down position.

The A1 Sports Touring KZ1100, has the larger frame, larger gas tank, electronic speedo and tach, fuel gauge, Adjustable Air suspension front and rear, low maintenance shaft drive, center stand that locks in the down position, cast mag wheels, still the leading front axle, seat pan is longer.

The CSR is very close to the LTD model, while the A1 is a different bike. But they share a lot of the same components. Carbs are the same, engine other than bore is the same, other than the gauges they share electrics but a different harness of course.

I have the 82 LTD, and had the 82 A2. Still like both, each had a strong motor, good to ride etc. The A1 would be better for Touring, with the Air suspension bigger gas tank and shaft drive, then the bigger frame lets you get a bit more room. The CSR is better for a cruiser, or if you want to get a bike that needs less work. As it looks like it may be in better shape? Going on the difference in price, and all the pictures posted anyway.
His prices, well they look like a Blue Book Value, and no way to know if they are fair without an inspection of the bikes.

As you state that you are a new rider...I'd recommend that you go with the motorcycle that is running the best and will require the least amount of 'prep' work. I see many many riders who buy a used motorcycle for their first bike and end up with a non-running or poorly running piece of shit. Some of us like pieces of shit and are prepared to work on the bike to make it run ... Kawasaki has a great reputation as a well-made motorcycle but they are a lot more fun for a new rider if they run. Don't be fooled by the lower price of the 1100 shaft...buy the CSR and hope for the best...you might want to have a reputable mechanic look at the bike before you cough up US$2K.

I appreciate the info so far, and that is a good point about the engine on the 1100

Perhaps this is a silly question, but in the KZ bikes, is the 81 CSR1000 desirable in the category?
