Apparently, Kawasaki changed the generator design on the KZ750B sometime within the inaugural year. And there are tons of parts from the newer design on the Bay since they used it for a few years.

Guess which one I have? Yup. The original design.

Grrrr...

What's wrong with your system? Also I believe that you can change and run a later system if needed.

The starter is shot and I had to remove the stator cover to replace it. Someone dumped the bike at some point and put a hole in the stator cover. It's JB-Welded. So since I had the stator cover off, I was just going to replace it right away.

I think you're right. I could convert the system over. But it would probably cost more than I paid for the bike. And it really wasn't something I wanted to tackle right now.

See if this helps for the cover:

I have a couple 77 650's and they have the old system. Biggest problem so far is the harness is different. The reg and rec are separate as well as the phaze of the alt is different. Took me a while to find a good harness. I did not want to hang one. I'd make sure I have trouble before embarking on that journey. Good luck!
Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

Actually, I think I was incorrect. I think they changed the generator design in 1978.

But whatevs. Still not a lot of what I need on the market. I'm thinking I'll just put the old stator cover back on and keep my eyes peeled for the one I need.
