Is this correct for an 82? I would be paying $250 for it. Maybe less

A bigger picture would be nice, but it looks to me like it's a KZ750 from around that era. For $250 or less, I'd say it's an ok deal. Make sure you check if it turns over freely and everything. I assume it doesn't run for that price.

Yep...looks like a 1983 KZ750L model...it shares much with the KZ750R1 model (aka 1982 GPz750) but is an L3 model (might also be a repainted KZ700A1 model (which also shares much with the above GPz model). If you are in Canada, it also might be a 1984 KZ750L4 model. The frame VIN would nail it to the model.

No it doesn't run. What would I be looking for on the VIN?

Might be a good deal for $250.00. All depends what your goals are for the bike and how much money you are willing to put into into it as opposed to how much money it needs. First, you should find out if its titled. This will add to the cost and costs vary from state to state. Secondly, I would at least see if the motor is seized. I ideally you would take some precautions prior to trying. Especially if its been sitting for a long time. But a seller will only let you do so much. Good luck, hope it works out. Tire condition. A good quality picture can tell you a lot.

The VIN (located on the side of the steering head) can be decoded to tell you a lot about the bike .. year, model, country of manufacture, etc. Just type it into an online system like
www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/kawasaki.asp
.
If the seller isn't the titled owner, I would walk away. In Canada, BC specifically, it is crazy hard to get a bike in your name if you can't contact the registered owner. If you're skeptical about it's history, you could pay for a lein (pronounce "lane") check on it ... that'll tell you when it's changed hands, if it was ever stolen, etc. etc.
Hope that helps

Specifically, the 7th letter of the frame VIN will tell you the model...while the series of numbers after the letter portion of the frame VIN will tell you what year the bike model is.

The 750 L is my guess too. Looks a lot like my 750 e3, but with a slightly different tank and rear fender too (I think). Better pics or vin would make it easier

Yea either a 1983 KZ750 or 1984 KZ700. What a shame. I guess it is 27yrs old, but even at that I can never figure how anyone owns a motorcycle and neglects it so severely. Once upon a time that was a really nice looking model from Kawaski.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
