Rare KZ found on side of road.

On my way home tonight, I passed a stranded motorcyclist on the side of the road.
He was on a KZ1100R.
I had to turn around and see if he needed help.
He did, his battery was dead and he needed a boost.
I helped him start her up again and followed him home as he lives about 10 minutes away from me.
He's the original owner, 29500+ kms on her, smoothbores and K&Ns with a Hindle exhaust.
Sounds great.
He's got a cane with him as he has a broken foot, left side.
Makes shifting tricky he says.
He's got all the stock parts in his garage, but the exhaust is rusted out.

I will be stopping by his place for a ride sometime as he doesn't know anyone nearby who rides.

Next time you see him, ask him if he is a member of www.kz1000r.com A fair number of fellow Canadians with 1100R's are members as well as a few that have slipped south of the border :)

OK here is a question for our resident paint gurus, does anyone have paint code numbers for this bike? I've always liked this paint scheme and would like to paint my 83 KZ750 L3 like this.

That is an interesting question. The reason I comment, is that the 1984 KZ1100R1 sold in Canada came in that silver/blue while those sold in Europe were ELR green. To a person, the owners of KZ1100R that I have met, when they elect to repaint, have gone with the ELR green (or some other color). I have not heard of anyone repainting their 1100R silver/blue.

ReproductionDecals.com has a decal set for the silver & blue paint scheme. Would they have any info in regards to the paint codes?

This guy's bike originally came in the Stardust silver (that's what he called it). He mentioned a good paint shop in BC, Canada - Perfections. I wonder if they've ever scanned those colors? KZ100R.com - July 2010 BOTM . If you can't find the codes anywhere, maybe ask Howard if it wouldn't be too much trouble to have his side cover scanned. tag ELRZ
