i guess, in the end we cant expect to get acurate hp #'s from our local dyno shop.

Dyno numbers will vary widely from one machine to another, even of the same brand. Air temperature, humidity and such also affect readings. What we can get by repeated runs on the same dyno with a skilled operator is an idea of how each modification affects power production on one particular motorcycle.
For example, if I make a baseline run, then change cams and see an increase of power throughout the measured rpm band, then I've got a good mod. On the other hand, if I see a huge increase in peak power, but much less power in the lower part of the rpm range, then I might not be so happy unless I'm building a salt flat bike.
A dyno run can also point out carb problems by measuring air-fuel ratio during the run. Of course, I could just use Testarossa's home built rig instead.
At the end of the day, comparing what my bike showed on a dyno run in SE Texas to what my buddy's bike made on a different brand of dyno in Vancouver is an exercise in the ridiculous.
