moto gp question
14 Aug 2011 10:57
I was just watching the czech race and saw that yamaha was testing a new 1000cc motor. I thought they already had one.probably need it as it seems the hondas are running away with this thing.and what is going on with kawasaki.thought they were rolling out a new machine that would compete.maybe they just dont have the riders yet?

motogp is changing ...it always has changed the top class engine and chassis rules...some combos have had legendary eras..350...750..500....F1..F2..500..990....800,,now 1000 ....the list goes on...next year in simple terms 1000cc prototypes using existing and new production based mills... mixed with the current 800cc ...and later full 1000cc full gp bikes ..in hopes of opening the doors to teams with money...bmw..and support teams /privateers...wild cards.....anyways....the top teams will always be the top teams even if you make em race mopeds...yoshimura ama would win at dice
go here www.motogp.com/...once you navigate the site many links a free to read ..sort of a GP daily news
also here is the rules and cc regs for upcoming GP..... www.motogp.com/en/MotoGP+Basics
one note of interest is that while many teams will take full advantage and run new designs...some even top teams may chose to run the 800 that was winning races in 2011...against unproven 1000cc prototypes even their own to start 2012 unless testing in the off season shows something......favoritism and politics will be fun to watch for us gp fans

1000cc is the new maximum engine displacement for the 2012 season. It's not certain that all manufacturers will be using all 1000ccs however. There is also a restriction on how much fuel that can be carried. I believe that this may ultimately limit how much horsepower that can be generated, and so some builders may choose a smaller/lighter engine package. Supposedly, the new engine should be "production based," but I'm not sure how they will determine that. Will this mean a new round of homologation special bikes sold to the public at insane prices????
As for Kawasaki, well they dropped out of MotoGP with no announced plans of returning. Supposedly, they are focusing all their efforts at the new ZX-10r in World Superbike. Tom Sykes seems to be making steady progress with this bike, but I still think that he is not the ultimate answer. Some how, I see Kawasaki's lack of participation in MotoGP as a purely business decision. If they thought it would help them sell Ninjas then they would compete, but the market is still pretty flat for these bikes with no real glimmer of hope until the economy shows a solid turn around. World Superbike has to be a much cheaper way of fielding race bikes for two races each weekend.
The new MotoGP formula is supposed to be a cheaper option to the 800cc bikes to lure other manufacturers back into the sport. As it is, they only field the minimum of 17 bikes for any given race. It would be nice if Kawasaki, Aprilia, BMW, KTM and others would decide to race.

Well I guess I need to read a little more on the upcoming changes. this whole time I thought they were all on 1000cc bikes. I dont know if all the production based dtuff will be good or bad for the manufacturers.alot of technology is developed with these works style bikes. on the other hand it would definitely get more teams on the grid.Is this like supercross where the ktm team is running a 350 motor?whatever the gp does ill still be tuned in. just wish they would run the telemetry of motor in mph instead of khm.

if it helps any...they are doing 200 on the shorter straights and more on the longer ones..i would not bet money but i think they hit 210-220....around the track they appear slower than the F-1 cars were for sure and the acceleration is about 2/3 a real race car...but they fly...and it is much more seat of pants driving...in the cars they look like little bobble heads in space craft....on the bikes it is unreal to watch them do 150 ft power slides...fully leaned over with the front tire washing out and leaving it's own stripe....insane
