I have an 80 E-2 and had about a 1" gash in the rear tire. Being TL, it took 2 tire plugs and a can of slime to get me home... I felt KINDA bad for the person that changed that tire for me. ;)
You got some really good suggestions from everyone, so I'd just include one more so far: a trailer to carry all that stuff!
And check out a show called, "Long Way Round" with Ewan McGregor. They went from London to New York traveling east. Heck of a documentary.

That was an interesting show, my brother got it for me as a Christmas gift last year. Truth be told, I (as you could too) could ride anywhere in the world with a BMW/SnapOn/Arai/Touratech sponsorship and not one, but TWO support vehicles following you. :P

JB Weld
Some grease
Spare throttle/clutch cables IDK if your bike use the same cable for push/pull, if it does and one breaks you can convert to pull only.
spare levers
Zip Ties
Duct & electrical tape
Maybe a spare gas can mounted somewhere. I think gas will be an issue, you mounting side jerry cans or anything? Can you calculate the range you have now to make sure you can fuel up in between?

I think the situation that would come around to bite you in the butt, would be something like the bike getting knocked over in a parking lot and breaking the most obscure part just to leave you stranded. so I say just do whatever you can and have fun!

I'm bringing a 6"x6"x1/4" square of steel for my kickstand in "less than desirable" conditions ;)

Good call on the JB Weld. When I was stranded up in Deadhorse last time, a guy on a BMW just the day before I got there, came in with a cracked engine case. He rode from Deadhorse AK to Key West Florida on a BMW with JB Welded cases.

All joking aside, this is serious business due to where you are going and what mileage like that will do to you both mentally and physically. I have a friend that attempted it and he has a very good posting on another website about it. I'll pm you the link to his prep to return log (I don't like to put links to other old UJM bike forum sites here as it might appear to be trying to siphon members from here). You are more than likely too late to go this year due to cold weather if you don't take the most direct route with virtually no sightseeing stops, sound goofy to say that in July I know but once you read about his trip last year you'll learn why.

For now the number one thing I'd recommend would be a SPOT (Satellite Personal Tracker), it is the only thing that will work in some of the areas you'll be riding in and if something goes terribly wrong you don't want to end up as the basis for a movie.
