Buying a title?
06 Jun 2011 22:18
Has anyone ever had experience using one of the title companys to get a title for a bike? I wish it was easier to get a lost title but it seems like thats the only way?
Would like to know cost and aount of time it took to get it.
Thanks

Is it your title that was lost? If I loose a title,I go to the court house and apply for a lost title, pay six bucks and have it within two days. Roy

Here in the wonderful state of IL, if you own the bike and loose the title it costs $90 to get a replacement. If the bike is not yours than it is next to impossible. I had to buy a frame with a title on eBay to be able and make the bike legal.

I had to buy a frame with a title on eBay to be able and make the bike legal. It is different in each state. Some it is very simple and some you do not even require a title if the bike is over a certain age. In others you have no choice and sell the bike for parts on eBay it is so hard or next to impossible.

my dad brothers and buddy have all gotten titles on different cars and bikes by using the titling companys.such as
www.its-titles.com/
www.its-titles.com/motorcycles.pdf
seemed like it usually took around two or three weeks to get back and the titles come back registered in some other state that is more flexible, then you transfer it into your name in your state.
the last one my buddy did came back registered in maine.
seemed like it cost around a $150.00
no first hand experience tho.

Here in Montana it's a piece of cake. You just fill out a notarized bill of sale from who you bought the bike from ,take it to the dmv and get a new one comming. We also have permanent plates for bikes, atvs and snowmobile here too. You just pay once and your done.

I've used International Title Service a few times in the past. Within NY State it's getting more difficult to use ITS as I have heard NY State has refused to accept some of the Maine transferable registrations when they come from the garage that processes the applications for ITS.
I even had to use ITS when I had the title for the bike. In NY State the VIN must match a list of OEM supplied VIN numbers. With one bike it was mis-titled in another state using the engine number - and NY State DMV refused to process the registration...
