Could check with KZr member rstnick who is a Locksmith and can cut keys by the code #.
Cost for a pair of keys might be less than $15 (perhaps $10 + $3 shipping).

Good Fortune! :)

Just over ride it with a simple on off switch
All you need is a normally open one way toggle switch

I seem to remember that any Kawasaki key from that era works on the ignition and the gas cap, but the seat lock keys were different? or maybe I got that the wrong way around?

I think you could also jam a thin bladed screwdriver in there and start it also - a lot of them were stolen that way... I have seen a lot of ignition switches from that era scratched in the same way from doing such a thing...

The bypass toggle also works... right off the battery like a drag racer - the $2 option.

All 3 are coded the same: ignition switch, seat lock, & helmet lock, so you need the correct key. The code is located on the underside of them. Without a spare key, you'd probably have to go to the dealer or a locksmith. If you have a spare key, any hardware store should be able to cut one. I got mine from the HomeDepot - ilco KA14 X103.

The fuel cap is a simple device - you can use any thin, flat key to open it. Whatever you use has to be thin enough to fit thru the opening & reach down a good half inch or so. Some folks say you can use a screwdriver, but it would have to have a long flat blade on it. I tried a couple of small screwdrivers, but even they were too big to fit into the opening - they didn't reach down far enough. Unless you don't mind damaging stuff.

Edit: the info is in regards to the 80s models. The earlier bikes might be different, especially the fuel cap lock - maybe you can use any old screw driver on those.

98% of all Harleys ever sold are still on the road. The other 2% made it home.
