Chance to buy a kz900
15 Oct 2010 10:43
So I may have the opportunity to buy a dissassembled Kz900.
Picture one
Picture two
Guy says the engine turns just fine, frame has a clean titel , and all the parts are there. They are just taken off the frame. I have been looking for a nice long project to keep me occupied (I'm back from Antarctica and teaching science in Rural Mississippi. SUrprsiginly more boring than Antarctica.)
$700 seem like a fair price? I know there are a lot of unknowns but I am wanting to do a total rebuild so I am not too concerned

...yeah it would be a project....but you can score running registered ones that are a better project for 500-1000 with a key and the ability to run it up and down the street as you fix stuff......and they are not to rare to score if the money is in your hand
if you want it...then get it...it is only money.....
deals turn up so much that every time i buy something now(almost every time lol)the same item in better condition that i could never find...i now find ten for less the next week..like life is toying with my impulse buying...so i have decided to wait(easier said than done)and make sure i get a title and if it is more than few hundred it would need to be "REALLY" special......
but if you need a project...and the market there is kinda dry......well...you know...
good luck......you will be at or above 1200 before you smell exhaust in the shop imo

if you could do a really (REALLY PRO)good restoration on those rims and sell em with all the bolts.spacers and axles and super cleaned up as a pair with a high reserve...the overseas folks may pay the 700 you spent on everything....
and good kawasaki rims and gear are pretty easy to come by imo

Hmmm, hard to say, being in Europe it's difficult for me to comment on pricing, but from what I've seen here you could do better for $700, as in getting an assembled running bike.
On the other hand, if those wheels are indeed a set of Henry Abe seven spoke mags (although painted hideously green) they might be worth half of the asking price alone if cleaned up properly, from what I understand those 19" fronts are getting rare.

5 crisp ones in front of his nose! Try it.
I was going to say the same about those rims! If they are the old "Daytona" worth good $$. But are they Suzuki ad ons?
I am gonna pay a $1000 for a running, on the road 1980 LTD.
It's ugly rattle can paint with 4 into 1.
At the end of the ridding season here in Buffalo
I'm buying it for the virgin motor.
Talk it over at the Bar, either he'll give in, or you'll pay up:laugh:

A guy in Nashville, Tn. had a disassembled bike just like that for sale 2 weeks ago on Craigslist. I looked at it for $500.00 and turned it down. He was a liar. He told me those hideous green wheels were stock Kaw wheels from the 70's and that the motor just needed stuck back in the frame and she'd be runnin' down the road. When I went to look at it he had parts scattered all over the place inside and outside. So you bought it huh? I know that is the bike. Good luck with it man.

This could be the same bike. Was the guy from Ft. Campbell? Military guy?
I'm not too concerned about the wheels and I'm looking for something disassembled with parts all over.
How did the engine look?

The engine was pretty much all there. It was buried under a bunch of other parts next to a garage door with the carbs off and nothing plugging the intakes or the exhaust side. The carbs he said went with the bike were off a newer 80's bike. He told me the engine had around 23K or so on it, but the instrument setup he showed me only had 13K+ on the odometer. The only thing that he told me that was for sure was he didn't ride anymore because he'd got too fat for the bike. (350 lbs.easy) Hey, it may be a good buy for somebody, just too many ??????? for me.
