Brown Bear:
I have been digging through my literature on Kawasaki that were exported from Japan and your bike is not there ...there is no '400K' model [the 400J model would have a 'J' in the sixth position of the frame VIN]. This makes your quest even more difficult as the bike is probably a 'gray' export from Japan (and there probably were 'K' models produced for the Japanese home market. It may be close to the J model in terms of style and mechanical issues, but it is difficult to say for sure. I have a similar situation in that I own a Z2A, which is virtually unknown outside of Japan and information re my model is nonexistent...I suspect you are facing the same situation. There will be little or no info available on your model outside of Japan and what is available, is likely in Japanese. You might want to explore some of the Japanese bike sites.

It is possible...but you still need to find out how your 1984 Z400K model relates to 1980-83 Z400J models. I can find few references to the K model on English-speaking sites.

You could always get a 550 engine.
FWIW I'm sure that most, if not all the parts in that gasket kit will fit

update. after careful reading of the haynes manual i got a long time ago. (shhhh) it would appear that my stupid grey import relats in description to teh Z400 J3 model in regards to the rear shocks and a few other parts... im doing a complete rewire as it need it and it so far has been a very learning experiance.. (dont get grey imports) so now iv learned the HARD way.. im going to cry.. i have rings ordered thanks to steve from piston broker or is it breakers. well not sure his in the UK and his a fantastic guy will hunt the ends of the earth for parts you cant get and need... so get in touch with him ppl....
oh that reminds me i now need to get the bores honed and thats them done. hehe engine can go bk together. lmao other than the head gasket i need. haha the lower two will be gasket seal... or the make your own material stuff (proper stuff tho)
