Sounds like everyone here likes the 550's. I really like that on in the ad tybolt. If there were a similarly priced 550 in Houston CL, then I might jump on it. I'll keep my eyes peeled. Boy would I be in trouble with the warden then. Even though it would really be for her. She thinks that the ultimate motorcycle is her fathers '64 panhead. That bike is cool and all, but she can't even get it started by herself. It's kick only.

Has it been that long?! Yeah, that EX 500 sounded like a lawnmower but it became a lawn mover once redlined. I used to beat the piss out of my brothers. If you did that you could keep up with the bigger bikes pretty good.get her an ltd 440...or better yet and ex500...the ex500 with a cutdown seat and she is gonna have really safe really fun bike ,that is a real motorcycle to...theres a reason they made em for 30 yrs without changing much...
my fav is the 81 kz550 but that might be a bit too much bike for a gal.....the ex is slimmer and lighter imo

Very nice and very popular bikes the 550s were and good looking for a small bike. I rode one too. Not bad at all for small fry. Very fast.

I agree with the 550. I had an 80, 550a1, my avatar pic, and really liked it. I had a 750 twin and it was about the same height and weight as my mk2.
My daughter wants a bike and I would get her a 550 if I could find one.

We used to have a little 250 Nighthawk, and although slow, it was a great little bike...doesn't need to be low powered or slow, my wife has been riding for 16yrs and she can handle my ZX-10r except its too tall. I don't like the thought of drastically lowering a bike and screwing up the handling....

Good suggestions Patton. Thanks for giving answers outside the company line. I honestly have never been aware of that savage. Interesting bike, not too many cruiser thumpers out there.
Actually a though just struck me. Harley makes a "low" version of both the 883 and 1200 sporty these days. But this would only serve to prove her point. I don't have Harley money right now anyway. I'm still holding out for that $500 KZ550 with a cut down seat.

My first bike was a savage, or ls650. It is now called the S40, but very few changes have been made to it since '86.
It has a lot of low-end torque and it is very light. It handles easily at low speeds and is great around town. It's also great on gas, I averaged about 55 mpg with as high as 65 mpg on long steady stretches.
Being belt drive and a single, it is very easy and cheap to maintain, with only a few common issues.
If she likes to go really fast this bike probably isn't the best choice; if you get 95 mph out of a stock bike you're doing well.
If you want more info on them just let me know.
