Anyone here running a 1980 Z1 Classic EFI?

I have some Z1s of my own, mostly in pieces mind you- but I have had them running off and on LOL- but I got a customer bike in my shop the other day, and though I know a guy here with 2 of them, I wondered if anyone here had a Z1 Classic EFI with the EFI still on it? My buddy has the factory recall carbs on one of his, but the other is still the orginal EFI!

I am not sure what the problem with this one is yet- it is literally draining fuel down the exhaust- completely flooding out the possibility of combustion, except the bad kind LOL

I think the injectors are stuck OPEN of all things, but who knows what it will be- I think the "brain" is fine, because I have always heard they are not-running or running, so if the bike will run, it is still good?

Anyway- I ramble- anyone here ride and use one of these buggers with the Injetion stil lon it?

I think www.redlinecycle might have some of the early EFI parts for the classic. www.americanclassix.com might have some too.

M, not familiar w/this bike, but recently had a similar prob. on a FI VFR, the pressure regulator had failed internally, venting raw fuel from fuel rail thru reg. to intake manifold when pump was activated. Quick enough to check, but had me puzzled for hours. luck G

in all it's glory- anyone know where I can find a FSM for this one, especially the EFI stuff? So I can run down the diagnostic flow chart etc?

If you can get a shop manual for the 1981 GPz1100, it should be real close in troubleshooting. This model had a variable air flow resistor mounted in a flap on the intake/air filter box.

The 1982 GPz1100 went to a throttle position sensor mounted on the right end of the throttle shaft.

I get my manuals from www.repairmanual.com and www.manualsnmore.com

Wow- good info- yes, if I can beg-borrow-steal a supplemental, I would really love to go through an entire diagnostic of all the EFI systems!

Does anyone know what the compression is supposed to be on this bike. I found one for really cheap and I might be getting it. I just want to make sure I'm getting a good running bike.
