Wow...after over 3yrs...

I am back with the KZ bug again. I used to be on here a long time ago with a 76 kz650b with a blown motor, have since had 2 kids, gotten married, bought a house, and bought a 2006 ZZR600.

Now with all that out of the way, I have been looking around to find me a project bike to work on with no luck in my minimal price range. I know there are tons of bikes in my area of Phoenix, AZ, but not enough KZ's.

I am hoping to do a lot to the bike, but not sure where to start as I have never built a bike.

I welcome all comments, and thank everyone in advance for their responses.

Nice GPZ550 in your area:

Thanks! I guess my hopes for getting one were a bit premature as my tax return will all be used up, but I'm now going to see what I can muster up to get one. Its now looking like I am a few months out from getting a project, but at least I will have paid off 6 different bills, totaling over $14K of debt. So I get to build up my savings and get what I want is an ex-police kz1000.

I used to say "Old bikers never die, they just get married and have kids".

It took me 22 years from when I got married to when I could get back in the saddle again.

Your story sounds the same as mine. Had an 1982 KZ1000csr. Wife got pregnant, and my dad convinced me that the bike was too much work, so I gave it away. Fast forward 8 years, two moves, three different jobs, two kids, and now I'm working on a 1978 KZ1000 that is even worse shape. Good luck, I know you'll find something cheap enough. I got mine for $400. It's definantly worth getting out of debt. Screw the bloodsuckers and pay cash.

I got out of it for a while just because I got married, lost interest, and I got a "message from God". I was on my old worn out Honda 750 beater, going down the highway maxed out at about 115mph, front end wobbling, almost scraping my pegs on the curves, I pulled into a mall, kilt the engine and swung the kickstand down. Just as I lifted my leg over to get off of it, amidst the crinkling popping noises of my red hot header, I heard a sudden "WHOOSH" as the front tire just let go. I realized that if that would've happened a few seconds earlier, I woulda been toast. I looked up to the heavens and said, "OK, I gots da message".
But then a few years ago, my wife says suddenly, "honey, let's get a Harley".:woohoo:
But after finding out how much the damned things cost, an old nasty lookin KZ100LTD showed up on Craigslist for cheap.
I went to check it out, fired it up, took it for a spin, heard that unmistakable sound and it's been loving bliss ever since.

riverroad that is some story, I had a 72 cutlass one-time and and I didn't believe in signs at the time, but I do now, and looking back, I should have gotten a clue, but until the car caught on fire I kept driving it.
