Frame Shipping

30 Oct 2009 16:09

I am getting a KZ650 frame from one of the members here and I could use some help on the shipping logistics. Should it be boxed up put on a pallet or should I tiestrap a skateboard to the bottom so the delivery man can roll it around? I have never shipped a frame and could use some input.

How much does a frame without the swingarm weigh?
Who ships something like this, Fed Ex, UPS?
How should it be packaged if at all?

Thanks Guys

I had a motorcycle motor shipped from Ohio to Iowa last summer. I used uship.com. You can sign up and then shipping companies (sometimes individuals) will bid on shipping your item. Turned out that a guy that was traveling from the east coast to Washington state stopped in Ohio to pick up the motor and dropped it off in Iowa on his way through. I think it cost me about $200.

Posted in another topic but had a frame shipped from up state NY to me in Illinois and it cost me $100 including price of frame so not sure of actual shipping cost. It was shipped Fed Ex and guy just covered the pointy parts....rear peg frame, rear of frame, neck, etc. I heard UPS would cost you your first born but that is just hearsay as I haven't shipped one.

Craig, I doubt the shipper will require a title. You as the new owner will. :) The frame does have a title I would assume, if so will the title be shipped separately? That would be the safest way to go in my opinion. Good luck and let us know how it worked for you. There just isnt enough info on this subject

I'll vouch for uship.com

I got lucky and shipped a bike from Maryland to Missouri for right at $160. The guy was a boat mover heading back east with an otherwise empty trailer.

thanks guys that is another option

No title it is an abandoned MKII A-4 1980 and i am getting it off a friend...for a long term project...maybe even a spokes upside down fork ,monoshock, retro look

I will have to title it here ,but really i am gonna just put it in line with other projects for now...i have some title tricks up my sleeve and have a good man at AAA that can answer any questions cause he worked at CA. motor vehicles 20 yrs before running the AAA registration liasion center...he is great....if anyone has triple AAA ?that is the place to take questions for your states loophole tricks...

i have most of the stuff left over from other stuff to make a cool spokes and chrome rim hybrid with MKII body model.....

i am just in the planning stages and need to see how much shipping is gonna run to know what to offer $$$ on the frame and stuff......

any more tips will be great guys....
