Mods for 1980 KZ750-E
17 Oct 2009 18:16
What are some of the best Mods for my 1980 KZ750-E 4 cylinder. I'm restoring the bike but will most likely keep it mostly the stock look. Willing to listen to any radical ideas.
I will change..
stock air box to individual pods
stock exhaust to 4to1 ????
Biggest width tires that will fit rims
Maybe a oil cooler
I here about changing the swing arm like from a GS1100 is this worth changing give me pros and cons?
What can I do to the engine? It looks like a rebuild of some kind at this point. I have a ring or valve leak so compression is not good. I here a 810 piston kit is not a bad idea.
What do you think?
Thank You
Ray

Get pods if you want to become very familiar with carb removal and re-jetting.

pods are fine, if you buy good quality ones (k&n etc) if running mikuni carbs (bs34s) 40 pilot 140 mains is a good start. 4-1 exhaust is lovely looking although makes the other side of the bike look a bit odd. 810 bore kit DOES make a big difference to the power and torque on these engines also takes the compression up to 10.25 or 10.5-1.
basically my 750e has all the above parts but with a set of web cams and orient express valve springs, runs flawlessly and dyno'd at 109bhp at the crank (89rwhp) lifts the front wheel on acceleration in the first three gears, out accelerates cbr1000 to 110mph i lift off at 145 when it starts to use both sides of the road and on a run gets 50+mpg and so far has done nearly 25000 miles with no problems.

He hasn't posted in 9 months. I wonder if he put pods on it?
