Help... i have mad-kaw disease!
18 Sep 2009 13:28
geez.. i keep buying kawasaki, Several months ago i bought a basket case 1973 z1, i already own a Rickman w/ a 1973 z1 engine.
Now i found a 1977 kz1000 thats been sitting for about seven or eight yrs in a garage. Good shape for age. Gas tank will need to be cleaned. Carbs gummed up w/gas, has bad tires, and will need some effort to put back together and get it back on the road.
The guy that owns it doesn't know how much to ask for it. I would think that $1500.00 is good fair price. I am seeing that examples in good running condition are going for around $3000. Any input would be appreciated.

I think more like 1000.00 sounds fair for a 77 with that amount of work.

Yes the picture is of the 1973 z1, i put the picture up just because.
i have no pic of the 1977 1000 that i would like to buy. The bike does look good, looks to be complete and will clean up very nice.

I think US$1500 is way overpriced for a bike that will take a fair amount of work to make it run...early model KZ1000's are still fairly common...even running examples (I have two (one runner, one basket))... offer half that

$1500... Not by me anyways.... Hell you'll be able to find a running KZ for that price... Especially these days with the economy as it is...
Example, went and looked at a '77 KZ1000 here in Az. These have been hard to find here but lately, they're starting to pop up where ppl are selling...
Anyhoot, the guy wanted $850... Non running, missing pieces, rotted & rusted etc.... I replied, good luck...
On my way out, asked what I would give him.... Hook sunk!
No more than $500 for all I would want is the frame and motor outside of that, not worth a damn to me....
I informed him go ahead, hope you get what your asking for it, seriously for he seemed a nice guy. If you can;t sell it, give me a call if you just want to dump it...
If he calls, I'll say, times are hard, $300... take it or leave it....

you know what your looking at...if you can get a cleaner 77 kz1000...for 1500 then you will never look back...that is a great offering price and will show you are not just yanking him.....i had the 77 in light blue (painted) spokes....rear disk....stock pipes....it was one of my favorite all time of the 10-15 iv'e had...just somthing about the way it handled with those stock pipes and spokes and good motor...mine was a true performer and still looked old school wheels and all....maybe my funnest all time kawi...my 2 cents...
good luck...pictures soon we assume:lol:
edit...after re-reading omr's post above...i do agree that it may be had for less....900-1500 i bet though.....my response to is 1500 a fair offer for a clean got to get running 77 1000 is ...yes...it is a "fair" offer....but so is 1000...maybe

I have this disease as well. Two complete 75's, everything of a 74 except the frame itself, everything of another 75 except the engine itself.
This disease cannot be cured. The only reason I didn't buy a Z2 engine this past weekend was because my medical problems preclude me from manhandling the thing.
