I know on my engine its where you would have the tach cable connected to. But mine is a KZ650. They look simular.

New to Family, 1979 KZ440 LTD

No the tach cable comes out the top of the head on these weird hondas !!!
it does look like a cable mount of some sort though.
Maybe an emergency tach cable mount !!!

its been a while since i've worked on any cb 1100s but that looks like the camchain tensioner. the shaft drive motors run opposite from chain drive motors so the tensioner is on the front of the engine instead of the rear like our motors xs 1100 yamahas are the same way

I'm gonna guess you need to replace an o-ring or gasket. Sorry, but its Wednsday and you asked. :laugh:
