Bike Shop Tune-Up Costs

I had to recently bring in my ZRX1200 for a tune up, as I was at a lost to see how to correct the float bowl issues. The cost is looking to be around $350, this includes full tune up and carbs cleaned, synched, etc. This being my first experience with a bike shop, what do you all think around the costs?

Sounds pretty reasonable compared to my area. Nobody wants to touch these bikes and it shows in the price.
I know it would not be any fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?

Sounds like they are charging you for around five hours labor, and I think five hours is about right for a complete tune up, carb rebuild, and carb sync. Remember, you are paying shop rate, that's $50 - $80 an hour, plus parts, plus maybe an environmental fee, and maybe a flat shop fee, plus possibly taxes.

That's the number two reason I do all my own work, number one being I don't trust anyone else's work :D

I don't know where you live but our shop rate is $95 per hour and we work mostly on bikes 10+ years and older.
Carb overhauls on 4 cylinder bikes are typically 4 hours labour and then the parts on top of that, so $350 for the work you're getting sounds like a deal to me.

Thats good, just need the validation I wasn't getting hosed. All the old bikes I have owned and have been able to do all the work myself, but a almost brand new bike beat me when trying to get the carbs back in!

The very term "carb overhaul" is pretty subjective. Most bike shops don't disassemble an assembly and clean the set ultrasonically... they take the set off and put in a carb kit and might hit the assembly with a few squirts of carb cleaner. We take about 8 hours per set for this reason... we have found there is NO WAY to ensure a set of carburetors will work properly unless cleaned properly.

Any charge is unreasonable if the level of work isn't up to that charge. It isn't possible to say whether a potential charge is good or bad unless you know the level of the work... The same charge for labor can be a rip off or a great deal depending on what the mechanic does in the process.
