Small project - Z1R tank save
20 Jun 2017 05:39
Stumbled across this on ebay. Have no use for it, but decided to try and save it.
I was able to remove a pretty good amount of damage just with pressurizing the tank and some heat. But there was no saving the crease on the back top edge of the tank so I had to cut that out. I made up a puller and tack welded carriage bolts to pull out specific areas and used a mist of primer to work the high/low spots so there should be minimal amount of filler needed. I have a MIG but know from experience you're wasting time trying to get a air tight weld with it, so I'm going to get someone to TIG the repair panel in. Still have a couple more spots to work on yet.
