2.5 turns open is a good typical spot. 1.5 is too lean for most bikes, although sometimes the bikes came that way from Kawasaki for emissions reasons.

I see! I'll leave it alone then.

Btw. how does a lean setting feel when you ride it?

The Foam Filter arrived from the US. I had been suspecting the non-standard K&N filter is one of the reason for 6000-7000 RPM hesitation.

And I was glad to be correct. Once the foam is oiled and installed the bike runs FLAWLESSLY from idle to redline!

No matter how harsh I whack the throttle it would just climb correspondingly with sweet roar.

I also set the idle screw back to 1.5 turns.

This must be a finely tuned system by Kawasaki and something not to be messed with

The foam filter looks like this. It has a metal 'cage' inside which is a good thing as I do not have the original cage.

I bought it from ebay $25 shipped to Melbourne: EBAY LINK

I took the bike for a decent ride with newer sportsbikes ranging from R6 to S1000R to MV Augusta F4.

The fuelling after putting back the foam is simply SUBLIME :). Here's a video of one of the 'intermediate' section ;). You can hear in some places I simply whack a WOT and the bike complies. No stuttering, no hesitation.

The bike handles BEAUTIFULLY and so much more visceral than my GPZ900R which I now think a bit too 'polite'. There were CBR1000 and MV F4 in front of me which I could have passed but with risks. But of course on the straight they simply pick up the front wheel and fly!

Considering that my bike still have leaking fork seal and smoke on deceleration I am now wondering how this bike would handled when new!! It must be really amazing piece of machinery.

I consider the mechanical work are 'done' except the hard parts such as engine internals. I hope to start working on the painting and cosmetic looks!! .... and unfortunately the warm summer days are over...

Painted the engine block and pretty happy with the result from $20 rattle can :)

And then took the bike to Redhill to cure the paint and see the autumn colours!
