Emissions Control Valve Cover Fix
26 Sep 2012 12:46 - 26 Sep 2012 13:17
There are many ways to plug the head to cam cover holes on a Emissions Control Head. Here is a solution I came up with to effectively plug these holes.
We have a Sears Hardware Stores in southwest Ohio. They have a fastener supplier (Hilleman) I was able to per-cure a 10mm(wide) x 30mm(length) machine set screw. The hole in the cam cover will take a 10mm tap without having to drill, just install a lubercated tap and start to thread the hole. Now, if you have a 30mm length screw.....you want the tap length so the set screw bottoms out flush such as illustrated in picture. Apply some sealer to the threads and firmly set screw....your done. You will have no leaks or gasses to the top of cam cover. If you need question answered, PM me. Spencer

Hey, good write up, have done this before. I need to ask though, why are you going so deep with them? 10mm would be just fine. What type sealer you using?

Your right....30mm is long but dosent extend out the bottom of cam cover...is still recessed in the bottom of cam cover about 1/8 inch. 10mm would do fine, really no need to go 30mm....personal preference...I used a high temp RTV....dosent need much to seal. I just took the billet emission caps off after 400 miles and the pockets were bone dry like the pic, no need for gaskets anymore. Thankyou....Spencer

Nice job!
But I wonder if we are making a mistake blocking those off. We could run a hose up to the handle bars to make hand warmers for those winter months
