Just discovered KZR - Looks fantastic!

My GPz is being a bear to get to idle, but I'm getting close. I think that the PO m ay have routed some of the venting incorrectly or disposed of some of the tubing from the carbs altogether. Can someone advise as to the proper disposition of the tubes coming off the T-fittings that connect carbs !&2 and 3&4? The fiche shows them going up to nothing (open to atmo?) and the PO had the two Ts connected to one another (but not open to atmo).

That bike will have a Charcoal Canister from the Factory, to absorb the Gas Vapors and then re-circulate and burn them. You can go into Kawasaki.com here: www.kawasakiepc.com/SystemSearch_Frames....843&CFTOKEN=70024183
This will have the links to your bikes parts diagrams. Maybe looking at the Carbs and Canister parts will help you. Basicall you need the small hose nipples at the engine side of the carbs, either hooked up or plugged. The #2 carbs Vacuum nipple would go to the Petcock vacuum daiphragm. #1 & #4 would TEE together, then the off of the TEE a hose would go to the Vacuum Switching Valve for the fresh air injection, thats at the Valve cover. It has a Valve up near the center of the valve cover and a large host to each set of reed valves.
The canister would be hooked up to the float bowl vents, these are up high on the rear of the carbs, near the airbox connections. There is probably a hose chart for this system under your seat, on on the side cover.

If not already done, would consider tossing all the anti-pollution paraphernalia, and plugging the resulting unused holes.

Mine has the crossover from the head reed valves back to teh airbox but none of the other charcoal stuff.

BUT YOU GUYS ROCK. I am on my way on this beast, finally... THANKS!

Does anyone know if the 82 GPz750 carbs would work on the '85? the set that a gent has for sale locally are from an '82 (KZ750R1) and I note some pilot-jet stuff that looks different (a plug) but the dimensions otherwise seem the same.

I opened the tubes to atmo last night and tried to get it started: no joy. It had worked briefly at first but I didn't have enough time on my second dedicated attempt to get it warm enough to idle so I could balance the carbs.

(vent)I am getting pretty tired of the process of taking these carbs off, and I have a sense that I'm going to F something up that will be costly to replace. Buying stuff that the PO had monkeyed with is a pain. (/vent) :sick:

Might be wrong, but thinking both '82 and '85 GPZ750 use BS34 carbs.

My understanding is the earlier BS34 has a plug under the pilot jet, and the later BS34 doesn't have the plug.

Could check parts info at kawasaki.com for differences in jet sizes.

so it looks like mechanically the 1982 GPz carbs would be the same, and should go right on.

Do I do that (Grab the local 82 set) and see if I have a truly cursed set as they are on the bike?

Is it known what's wrong with the existing carbs?

For example, if a diaphragm is bad, the other set may be equally faulty.
