Well anything will fit if you have a big enough hammer. :) The box is not close to being the same as your original, but it might be made to fit. I think you're best off getting a 1977 or 78 airbox, or I think the 79-80 KZ1000 would work too but you'd have the emissions hose nipple there.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

It fits in my 1976 KZ 900, but I'd check with Jeff at Z1 Enterprises

It'll fit. I'm running my '73 Z1-900 airbox on my '78 KZ1000 with Mikuni VM29 carbs.

The 73-75 Z1 airbox is pretty much the same part, near as I can tell. I run a Z1 airbox on my 79 KZ1000E1 with VM26 carbs. Since the Z1 airbox is smaller than most of the later airboxes, I suspect it will easily fit any KZ1000 as a replacement for the original and I also suspect, that is why the go for so much on eBay.

Hello All,

Its been a while since I posted last but I do tend to lurk semi-regularly. So I bought and rode my 77kz650 all summer and fall and loved it. I kept dreaming of a bigger bike and a couple of weeks ago picked up a 77 kz1000 and sold my 650 to my buddy who is so stoked. Its in real good shape however, the PO traded the stock airbox for some pods, UGH! I don't have anything against pods I just would have preferred to have the choice. Anyway to make a long story shorter I would like to know what stock airbox I could replace with... I see some on ebay for 80's models (some police bikes) for reasonable but I'm just not sure they'll fit. Also I was reading previous posts and they mention an emissions nipple. How does that come into play regarding the 77 kz1000?

Thanks just to clarify I'm trying to find out what fits in a 77 kz1000. thanks

One consideration in comparing the pros and cons is that when the rubber eventually hardens, it's usually less expensive to replace four carb intake hoses as opposed to the entire airbox. And of course the air filters are also different.

Good Luck! :)
