Hello All,

Its been a while since I posted last but I do tend to lurk semi-regularly. So I bought and rode my 77kz650 all summer and fall and loved it. I kept dreaming of a bigger bike and a couple of weeks ago picked up a 77 kz1000 and sold my 650 to my buddy who is so stoked. Its in real good shape however, the PO traded the stock airbox for some pods, UGH! I don't have anything against pods I just would have preferred to have the choice. Anyway to make a long story shorter I would like to know what stock airbox I could replace with... I see some on ebay for 80's models (some police bikes) for reasonable but I'm just not sure they'll fit. Also I was reading previous posts and they mention an emissions nipple. How does that come into play regarding the 77 kz1000?
Thanks

My 77 650 had the green uni's on it :S , and I replaced them with a stock box from a 79. If you look close at the pic, you can see where I fit a nice chrome bolt and washer that not only plugged the hole, but it looks good tooB)

Just to clarify, I'm trying to find out what airbox will work for a 77 kz1000. Will the 80's model boxes work? and whats with the tube in the front of these boxes?

Here's the 1977 KZ1000-A1 air box (See next post for later model airbox with the air tube fitting which doesn't show in the FSM covering 1979 KZ1000-A1, but is shown in kawasaki.com for 1979 KZ1000-A1A, which might be a California model or a mid-year design change toward emission reductions).

Having not actually attempted the interchange, am unable to provide a more responsive answer to the question. But am guessing the later model with air tube fitting would readily interchange, with the airhose fitting being simply capped off at the airbox.

The "S" shaped crankcase breather hose is believed the same on both airbox versions, connected to an outlet from bottom of air box.

Could play it safe of course and wait for the "correct" airbox without any airtube fitting.

Good Luck! :)

The Z1 airbox will work fine. You need to tie it up for support as your carb holders can fail with all the unsupported weight otherwise.
