"why are the bar mounts on an angle?"...

Using mini bars (clamp on for example) otherwise with the small rise he has off the top tree, the bar will hit the top of the forks....

i understand how hard it is to design stuff that doesn't have to be any particular shape.just as long as it has the correct datum points and it is cool and not too bulky but flows and is smooth and, and, and.people don't relize how hard it is to pull designs outta thin air sometimes or to try to figure out something that hasn't been seen before.if they were black anod'd i might like em a little better.he!! just squared off on the back probably wouldn't offend me.
they are definitly trick tho.
so i gotta ask how many of these cool parts that you are sharing with us,are you going to be willing to make and sell to your fellow kz brethren? :)

Ok a lot of comments on why the clamps are at an angle. I didn't want to put a dirt bike style bar on it an I wanted to keep the sportbike style and angle of the bars. But raise it up a little for tank clearence and my back, So I put them on the angle so I can go around the top of the fork tubes and stay on the same angle as a sportbike, They will be a 4 peice bar welded from 7/8 .120 wall dom tubeing.

I havent given much thought on selling any of these parts. I like makeing one off stuff, There are a lot of parts I make for hayabusa and 1000's but the kz stuff is just like my hobby. Some of the things that I will make for this bike I will probally make a half dozen or so just because I am set up I might as well, So I will ask if any one wants one.

I want to build a really cool old kaw with some new tricks. If I can help anyone and make a few new friends along the way I will be more than glad to.

Ok a lot of questions about the bars so here they are.

I took some 7/8 .120 wall dom tubeing layed out the center sections and clamped them in a vee block and machined the ends, they match perfect. Then I clamped them in the top tree and tack welded them so my angles are exact.

Then I clamped down the center section on a flat plate and layed out the end peices with some steel parallels, clamped them up and welded them together. The angles are pretty much the same as a gsx-r, but they are up a little higher. Thats pretty much how they will look. I think I will chrome them though.

Do you think the welds will hold together? I'm just thinking about the leverage out at the ends of the bars.
Just wondering about the twisting action.

Another thought is to fill the tubes with RTV compound to absorb any vibration(something like what Barsnake does with it's dampening system).

Do I think the welds will hold together? If I didnt know who welded them I would question that too, I think they will be strong I ground a big v all the way around the tube and tig welded them. I have welded many bars over the years and have not had any problems, That could be a bad day if they don't (lol)

As far as vibration that will be another bridge to cross later, But you are right I have use silicone before inside the bars and it helps with the vibration.

i use welded chrome moly bars on my dragbike and they work fine never any sign of them letting go and for many years clubman bars and old chopper type z bars where welded never any problem with them i lke this design for safty reasons then the original clip-ons anyday. besides how much weigt and stress are you actually putting on the bars anyway if you have that much pressure on them where you have to be concerened about breaking them you would probably only able to ride 10 mins. at time because you where getting armpump.

Today I finished the top bar clamps for the trees ,so now there done time to move on. I was going to make a welding fixture for the handle bars but I went ahead and cut a set of foot peg brackets that I had drew up last week. They are made for a after market set of foot peg assemblies for a gsx-r 1000. I made them with plenty of adjustment down, back,up whatever. Not sure if I like them or not just yet I'll see if they grow on me.

ask anybody who has known me more than 10 min and they will tell ya im the most anti billet, anti new-tech usd fork guy youll ever meet in your life, but damn even im in love with that top triple tree! :woohoo:

Dont get me wrong I can see where MFOLKS concern is. I have seen alot and I have welded my fair share of bars and never had a problem. The basic idea for my bars comes from the z style chopper bars.
