big hurdle for me was an extended rear frame section to clear the tire with the extended arm and mount my extended tail section. The original frame sat over top of the tire when I mocked up the arm. I had designed a rear section that follows the bottom of the tail section but after talking to a race car chassis for a while about it, my design was not feasible without the extra expense of having to buy a special mandrel ($300). I took it upon my self to figure it out and work with what I have.

I couldn't really find a good place to buy metric tubing to match the stock frame section tubing so I ended up getting standard size tubing. I went with a piece of 3/4"x .065" wall tubing as it's smaller than 20mm and 7/8" was too big OD to slip into the stock frame tubes. To make up the difference in the 20mm ID of the stock frame and the 3/4" OD of the new rear frame section I needed to make spacer sleeves. I was going to use a section of the original rear frame section and file the ID to match the 3/4" OD of the tube but I realized that it would take lots of effort and I couldn't guarantee I would end up with an even wall thickness.

Here's my solution. I found a metal divider from a metal desk that was about the right thickness I needed. I cut the sheet into strips and formed it around a piece of 3/4" tubing cutting the excess off as need so the ends wouldn't overlap at the seam.

Next was to start on the frame section. I started by slipping sections of the 3/4" tubing into my new sleeves and then the sleeves into the frame....

I used a part of the stock frame section to come up with the main hoops as bending a new piece wasn't economical. I think it turned out OK enough for me. It's not the one piece frame section I was wanting but I think its a fair compromise. All that needs done is final welding (obviously) and taillight mounting tabs as well as the tail section mounts and a brace for the rear of the seat.

my extended tailpiece is going to be around 3" over but im adding the length in the area behind the stock rear mount so i shouldnt have to extend my frame to mount it.once iget mine mocked up as rolling chassis ill make a plate to mount my fender back using the stock location as one of the mounting points.i plan on chopping a stock steel rear fender in half and widening it it to clear a 180-190 rear tire and replating it to really have people scratching their heads,i might also extend the front of the fender so theres not a gap in front of it when i move it back.B)

In the background of the one pic you can see one of my fiberglass mold rejects that I'm using for mockup. It's part of the reason that I needed the longer rear section.

You have a good idea for the rear fender. Maybe I can get one of the wide fiberglass ones made by Beasley. I'll have to use a stock one for mockup. Most likely, I won't like the look so you can have it all to yourself.

Yeah, well, I think the 4-9" over adjustable swingarm and mono-shock is already going to blow that illusion for me.:woohoo:

Is this thread worth carrying on? It seems like I only get a few responses from the same people. I know I jump around on the project alot so sometimes it's hard to follow but the basic concepts are there.

HOLY CRAP man! Save the thread! Tons of us watch, but don't chime in. Winter slows down most people, those who can carry on, do...the rest of us set back and watch in appreciation.

I like your build a ton...keep the thread, man!
