djturnz...thanks for the info, I did a little research on the Acewell - and it seems like a pretty nice unit. It looks like everyone is using the magnetic pickup instead of a direct connect cable...is it possible to make the S10 that Acewell sells for Kawasaki's fit into an 81kz650?

So tonight I decided to see if my speed sensor fit to the speedo drive on my 650CSR rim. And it sure didn't! But, I cut the bottom off the old speedo cable, used the old nut from the end, and with a bit of sanding and a little work on the bench grinder, I replaced the nut on my acewell sensor with the one from my old cable. So it works, just takes a little fiddling.

wondering about digital speedo...are you happy with the Acewell? I've noticed they are available with lots of indicators. Do you know if ones with a fuel and gear indicators could be made to work on a old KZ? I'm ignorant of how the computerized devices interface with pre computer bikes?

Due to all the wiring removed from the harness connections for the instrument cluster, sure it becomes cleaner but the ACEWELL or any other digital speedo with idiot lights still require electrical connections...
L/R turn signals, +12Vdc, ground, speed, tach, high beam, neutral & oil LED's.
As for the Tach, direct solder feed to primary 1/4 coil from DYna ignition... Speedo is magnetic pick up off front rotor.
Yes, cleaned it up dramatically if that was your question....

aww shux, you guys!
Regarding the carbs, I was quite happy with the performance of the BullShiznit34 carbs before when the bike was running like hoop, so I am sure I will be happy with them once actually properly cleaned out and setup. I am certain that your carbs are likely better than my BS34's, BUT seeing how many people really like the BS34's and how happy I already was with them, I don't think your 29's are worth the price of another bike to me
I was really pissy last night because things were just not going my way but I have calmed down. I have come to terms with the dings, no stickers required (I have more than enough already anyways
) When I get the superbike bars on there I am sure it will all look and feel great. I will just repaint the tank again next winter. I won't need to do any more motor work next winter (hopefully) so I will have lots of time to paint so I am not mad. It's just a matter of wasted money and time that is making me mad.
Hey OMR, when you hooked up your acewell tach did it simplify your wiring much? I would like to simplify the wiring in the front of the bike around the headlight area so I can hopefully fit all the wiring into the headlight bucket.
