I realize this has been mentioned before but with the mechanical units, would need to know the Kawi ratio specs....
Dakota Digital makes some nice but spendy $$$ gauges...

i like this idea too. or maybe even make them out of alum. the id could be machined to accept the new gauges. then u could paint them black .

i have always thought i would have a ring like this machined so i could mount an Acewell gauge inside my kz cup. i just need someone with the talent ,like one of u guys to do it for me .

You have the option for Tach pickup. As mentioned, Yellow conductor wrapped around spark plug wire or for a higher resolution of tachometer sensing, hook up directly to one of the coils primary terminals.
You'll want the sensor close to rotor magnet for accuracies...
Once you dial; in for your wheel configurations and such, a little on the fly number tweaking (programming) and she'll be golden...

My son Alex has one on his 83 KZ750. It works okay, but speedo is way off under 10 mph due to the sensor doesn't trip very often at that speed. We had to tinker with the wheel circumference number in the mode setting to get a speed that was close to correct. We finally got it dialed in, but it took several trial runs riding next to my car to confirm an accurate speed. It seems the faster you go, the steadier the speedo reads. At lower speeds--25 and lower, the speed reading jumps several mph's.
We installed the unit in less than a day, but you have to come up with a bracket system to mount the speedo sensor.
It also is helpful if you have a wiring schematic for your model bike--before you start splicing and cutting wires inside your headlight bucket.
The wiring instructions and different mode setting instructions that come from Acewell are very roughly translated from Japanese, and do take some interpretation. However, the wiring schematic is clear, and just depends on your ability to identify the correct wires to splice onto theirs. The RPM's (tachometer reader) is a bright yellow wire that you wrap around one of your spark plug leads (the more wraps, the better the signal)... It works well but you need to select the number of spark pulses the unit will count to display the correct RPMs... Rule of thumb, if your bike usually idles at around 1000 rpm's and the unit is indicating 2000, you know you have the pulse count number off in the Tach setting mode.
The only feature we didn't set up is the clock, as it requires a constant current to the unit. It can be hooked up by jumpering the lead that goes through your ignition switch circuit... It wasn't worth it to us to do this hookup... No big deal...
I will see if can get some pics of the speedo sensor bracket if you think it will help.

I haven't been able to find gauges for my KZ750N Spectre so I'm thinking about going with the Acewell 2853:

Does anyone have any experience with these?
Thanks

The big issue with the dash is haveing no speedometer, no drive for it. Been looking at using an programable speedometer and haveing it modified to look like the original. I'm open to sugestions on this one.
Interesting you mentioned this now....
I was just at Autozone this weekend and up behind the counter they had the sample rack of Auto-meter brand in various sizes... Some small enough to fit into a KZ cup.
Kozo now makes a round digital meter as well... One side Speedo, the other cup Tach with indicators....
Here's some links I found in my search.... Maybe will give you some ideas. Various sizes on operations...
Dakota Digital... Nice but $$$

thanks, yes I have ridden it a little. pretty impressed with the power of this old slug.without even trying the front end comes right up.I think alot of that is due to the much lighter weight.lost 130 form stock.still need to get pilot circuit worked out but I think im going to wait to buy jets until I get my 83 gpz head on there.as for the guages im going with a acewell digital.yes that is a gsxr rear wheel on it.that wheel and the rear sets kinda started the whole ball rolling. The wife and i were garage saling and this guy had it sitting there bought it and a bunch of other gxsr parts.I am kinda of a tight#&* so I scrounged most of this bike from craigs list including bike itself.total amount spent on it so far is right aound 3k.only problem with the bike right now is prior to building I asked the wife if she would ride on it and back then it was no.now the bike is pretty much done shes kinda pissed there is no rear pegs.will need to come up with something??
