Hi Guys,
I guess its about time i post my project...i posted about it years ago asking questions. have been hunting for parts and finally have it almost buttoned up. shes not a thing of beauty but ive gone over the motor and its mint on has 16000kmsz on it.
The things ive done to it:
levers
exhaust
repaired wiring
installed electronic ignition
installed acewell speedometer
vm35 carburators with pod filters
dual round head lights
led blinkers
wrapped the plastics ( need to redo as they got damaged when moving)

I run the Ace well also and love it. I was even able to get a drive cable adapter that works with my GSXR USD forks.650mod wrote: I run an Acewell 2853 unit on my 650 and love it. Speedo, all lights, fuel gauge (if you ever run one), tach, total run time, trip gauges, etc etc.

It's small and compact, which really appealed to me. Overall a really nice unit. I'm more than likely adding an external tach this summer though, there's something about watching a needle rise that never gets old...

a bearing makes sense now, your buddy is a tricky lil feller now ain't he!?!?!
the cognito stuff is very nice and reasonably priced.cheaper than me making it and sweating the details.i can just buy theres and then mod it for bars gauges etc.
the cb isn't much to look at yet.i still have swingarm to build, seat pan tail piece to fab etc.it's getting a list of motogadget goodies,c-5 ignition, some posh switches with an acewell, and one of carpy's yosh replica headers painted black.
i'll have to post pics as i get further along

Since my speedo-tac went south Ive looked at Acewell and Motogadget motoscope, The Acewell looks to be the most practical to hook up but Im concerned with durability. and wondering about the speedo hookup and being waterproof. On the other hand the motoscope and read sensor and removing the front wheel gear set as it wont be needed. Has anyone any input to this? I currently have gauges from my project bike with 17K mi. and work perfectly but Im thinking long term, and dont to put up with replacing replacements.

It sure looks sexy! I found a distributor here in Canada and messaged them. I currently run an integrated Acewell unit. It's good and all, bit I just miss the needle tach and being able to clearly see where you're running the engine. The built in tach on the Acewell is digital numbering along the bottom- maybe 1/4" tall by an inch wide. Not big enough for my standards.
Thanks kretch!

A shape on the pin stripe that looks like if flows continuously from the tail up to the top of the tank (broken by the seat of course) the green on the black looks terrific so far. You've done a really nice job on that bike. Very subtle changes have really enhanced the look of the bike. Give yourself some credit on your design work! Best looking 750 twin I've seen I reckon!TexasKZ wrote:DoctoRot wrote: My vote is for a single green line that follows the crease on the tank up to the neck. Oh gosh I'm getting all blushy now

Here is the dyno report from Richmond Motorsports. Look at that torque curve! I should hire myself out for pulling out tree stumps. Clearly there's a hiccup around 4750 RPM though. Len (the tuner) told me that he thought it might be ignition. Ever since I put the Acewell electronic instrument on it it's tach reading jumps all over the place. Len tells me he got the same behavior from the dyno tach. He did some dyno tweak to calm it down for testing but suggested maybe dump the points for electronic ignition though I'm not sure that's desirable or even possible. Probably couldn't hurt to do new plug wires and coil? Oh, and pods haterz

And another thing, seems the KZR hive mind has decided. I'll most likely put the green pinstripe up the tank crease to the neck but not till the winter, having too much fun riding it for now.

But... Ever since I changed the ignition over to the Dyna unit, my tach has been reading all over, within a span of 300 +/- the actual RPM the bike is running at. Right now, I have the tach line for my Acewell unit (electronic) just wrapped around one spark wire like it said in the installation instructions. I know that I can also hook it up directly into a coil wire, but I just want to make sure I'm thinking of the proper one before I go and splice the line in.
Hooking the tach line up to the hot line (power to coils) wouldn't be right, so I'm assuming I tie it into one of the output lines on either coil. Am I right in thinking this?
Any input is appreciated as I just want to get a more steady tach so I know when I'm pushing the limits too hard instead of trying to gauge it off sound.
Thanks!
Devin
If I remember right I connected my Trail Tech tach wire to the black trigger wire.

I don't think the Dyna has anything to do with it unless you're getting a hotter spark. As for hooking it up to the coils, I'd be interested how to do that too. I'm thinking on going electric too.
