Here's the one I have on mine:

Acewell also has a Kawasaki speedo cable thingy. It doesn't work on our bikes right out of the box but if you've got an old speedo cable it's possible to change the nuts on the end with a little sandpaper and a bench grinder. So I didn't ahve to rig up a magnet like some do, I've got my stock speedo drive feeding the acewell directly, pretty cool.

Alright...got everything wired except for the horn, low fuel light, and the taillight. The brake switches are wired so that when the brake light comes on, so does the hazard indicator light on my acewell. I did this because I won't be running hazards when I get some new turn signals and install them. After everything is wired, there are a couple things I will need to trim because I left too much slack, and then I will button it up. The very LAST thing I will wire is the low fuel light. The wires are run, but they just need to be connected. No pics this time, but when everything is done, I will post some of the finished project (probably tomorrow)! :woohoo:

I LOVE mine! :woohoo:
(Please excuse the pic, I'm halfway through a complete rewire on my bike)

Yes, good old rip off Britain is still on £ (pounds), not a bad thing with the way the € zone is going though! I've attached a copy of the clock wiring for you to see, seems straight forward enough & its an all in 1 unit (*Edit*- i cant seem to add .pdf files here) . Tacho, speedo & some warning/signal lights are there too.Motor Head wrote: By Clock, do you mean Tachometer? If so it should have a pick-up point on the Negative side of the Ignition coil, which ever system is used.
Offer still stands, if you organize some stuff, you want from the USA. I can compile and ship in One box, to save you a couple of, what Pounds? You use Pounds or Euro's?
Thank you again for your kind offer, i'll see how things unfold.
Yup, its quite expensive to live here! :lol:loudhvx wrote: Man, if coils are that expensive over there, then that will weigh heavy on the decision. I believe he said coils are included in that all-in-one kit.
If points and condenser will add up to more than £25 to £50, then it may not be worth the effort to get the points working.
I would hope that an aftermarket tachometer for a motorcycle should be able to get a signal from the primary side of the coil. That is pretty standard.
Sometimes a Dyna S will not work correctly with some tachs. That is because the dwell is very long and the tach will see that as no-spark, so it won't register a signal.
The last thing i want to do is come across like a spoilt child that needs to get shot of some money. I've been planning this project for about 18 months now though as the bikes are as scarce as the parts i needed to wait to the right one came up, or the only one!, so i do have a little money set aside for it (about £1500 so i need to spend wisely). I wasn't waiting on someone to say go get the most expensive IG system cos its better, sometimes that aint the case.
That #5 seems to be a complete kit & if im not mistaken new HT leads are supplied too.

Motor Head wrote: So it that a 6 wire R/R with the brown wire? if so then the Brown is the voltage sense wire, it needs to be Switched to as close to Battery voltage as possible. If it sees lower than battery voltage it will make up the difference on output. Possibly overcharging the battery.
If it is 5 wire then it will not have a Brown, it will do the voltage sensing on the White/ Red output wire.
6 wire. I'm hooking up the brown wire to the "always hot" (but fused) wire that powers the clock on my Acewell. I just haven't gotten quite that far yet into the project. Shouldn't take me long to finish it all up though

Not sure if you're looking to update, but when I had issues with my tach and speedo a while back, I upgraded to an Acewell computer. This picks up tach signal off of your pickup wire to the coils, also has speedo, odometer, 2 tripometers, plenty of extra goodies, and all the indicator lights. I love mine!

She runs great now! :woohoo:
Here is my run down of what I think happened:
I noticed a slight hesitation. At first (and this was for quite some time) at WOT. I passed this off as a carb or timing issue. Eventually the hesitation became noticeable at all speeds. My first diagnosis was that the spark plug wires were bad, as they were literally falling apart when pulling them off. I replaced those, and the coils. The hesitation was still there, and eventually became a dropped cylinder. My theory is that the IC Igniter was going bad for a while, and then failed on the 2/3 circuit half the time...probably soon to be all the time. So I replaced the stock ignition with Dyna-S (since I had bought the 3 ohm coils by mistake). I still had the issue, which turned out to be a spark plug that had been fouled by gas from not firing. All seems well now thanks to you guys. I learned a lot about ignitions, how they work, and fixing any issues. She runs smoothly, and sounds even better than before!
As for the tachometer, I was going to ask if it might read differently with the Dyna-S. Since I have an Acewell computer, I simply changed the settings to 1, instead of .5, and now it displays properly.
Now, I need to tear out all the 30 year old wiring and replace that. Luckily, I have a lot of experience with this sort of work (as well as troubleshooting), so my thread on that should simply be a project thread, rather than a "What the heck did I do wrong thread" like this one. Again, thank you very much to all that helped me figure this issue out!
