new paint comming and soon to be polished 78 650 motor
I installed the 1992 gsxr 750 front end on my bike, but i would like to do away with the fork mount handle bars
and get the kind that mount on top of the triple t, but my triple doesnt have a place to bolt on the handlebars.
do they make a set of risers that can be bolted onto the top of my triple?
also take a look at my front tire-rim, any suggestions on a differnt rim/tire that would mount on - forks? gsxr 1000? i would like a bigger profile.
bottom line i like the gsxr triple/ fork conversion but i want a better stearing system with more height? how about a differnt fork-rim-tire-rotor-caliper that would work with the 92 750 triple?
or do you think installing handlebars on top with risers would help with low riding postion and handleing?
what would you do with this front end. the rear rim is a 16" 750 ltd disc conversion
the front is a 17inch rim.

Whoa......... New invention out these days, called a printer.... of the parts fiche file.

All I did was record what bolts & sizes/threads went where. I also used this when comparing SS bolt kit listings insuring I had everything I needed... Not really a big deal... Card board pattern idea works great no doubt. Same time, this worked for me...
Besides, both of my basket case KZ's had a mix matched set of screws/bolts holding them together so came in handy...
As for the Sunlight on the gauges... I've been running the Acewell Speedo/tach for the last couple years now, no issues for the characters/numbers are in black. The volt meter is analog, again no issues. Unknown about the AF/R gauge but not worried about it for this will mostly be beneficial during tune ups/jetting/emissions and occasional glances during rides for where she's burning...
It's all good...
OMR,
You might want to consider adding the dimensions to the drawing on your computer. I bet you could sell copies of it on eBay to folks who have torn their engines down without recording anything on paper or on cardboard and to folks whose kids have pulled the bolts out of their cardboard templates.Ed
Ahhh.... both of those groups of people would be better off if they never touched tools

Thanks for your reply. The wheels look great. I dont know what to do about a speedo, im using an Acewell on my current project but i hoped the next project (the 650) could use the original tacho & speedo if i changed the wheels. Personally i cant see that happening though. The instrumentation on it isn't in great shape anyway so it may be as expensive to refurb it than to just buy new instruments, the knock on effect though is changing the loom (harness) to suit the newer guages. I'm not afraid to rewire it as thats what im doing with my current bike but i was hoping to keep the 650 nearly original apart from the front & rear end.
Maybe i should juat lace the 650's hubs to 17 inch rims? with custom disc & wheel spacers.
Nice build, good luck with it!!

I hear ya guys no doubt, haven't truly made up my mind yet on how I want to go with it...
One thing Larry mentioned awhile back is with his gorgeous build was where he hated how small the Acewell units are. Wondered if there was a way to mount the Acewell inside one of the KZ cups....
I'll look into that as well and see what I can come up tiwh for I do have the KZ1000 instrument clusters that I could gut and work with....

Yeah would be nice to block off tach output on the head and forget about leaks all together. Even replacing the seals new doesnt last all that long before you start to get another drip on your exhaust.
The acewell stuff and most newer tachs use a probe wire that goes to the ignition coils to determine engine speed.
Hmm... to bad theyre so expensive. really shouldnt be.
Veypor makes a decent unit.

bearshawk wrote: same issue... i went cafe and i am seriously coinsidering just running a GPS and getting rid of the entire gauge setup, its more annoying than anything, or i have seen a bunch of guys go with the acewell setup, they are electric i believe?
either way i would LOVE to block off the tach hole in the front of my engine, it would stay alot cleaner that way
