Thanks to all. I found a brand new Michelin rear in my storage garage and bought a new Bstone BT46 for the front. New tubes, new rimstrips.

The bt46 is a trustworthy tire.

Just scored a great deal. 325-19, 400-18 Avon AM26. Three year old NOS. $100.00, and only 20 minutes from home.

Pic of the tread V and direction arrow. Both have the point in the direction of rotation.

Hi David
Warren was trying to also make the point that  we don't do all capitals as a normal  way of posting
It is considered shouting  ( I used to do it too when I first started out )
Tires  do usually have the arrow  to let you know which way to install them
Some tires have 2 arrows to show which way a tire is mounted depending on if it is for the front or rear wheel
Hope this helps
Dave

hi very sorry for the type error no offence meant ,yes thanks warren for the picture and help yes i have seen the arrows on some tires for front or rear fitment i have come across some info posted on a xs 750 forum by chance i have a 78 model and continental apparaently think by running the tread pattern the wrong way buy that i mean the groves going into the centre is a better way to move the water in not out when the bike is leaning i have never seen this before

The “V” is called a chevron. It, in my experience always points in the direction of rotation. Unless it’s a pattern designed to be bidirectional. In that case follow the rotation arrows printed on the tire, keeping in mind the rotation arrow is subject to tire position, aka front or rear.
