I braced mine (over not under). It's not that hard to bend up but make sure you get your chain clearance right. If you are having a fab shop do it without the bike there you may wanna have them just tack weld it and check clearance before they finish it up.

My design is a little tighter (brace closer to arm) than Rob's, he's got miles of clearance by the looks of it. Mine had to be narrower to fit inside the frame. I dig the spools he had added, those are very nice to have!

I did one like that on my 79. The chain rubbed so I had to cut a chunk off. Sucked because it was powdercoated real nice. Since then all I do is bend a piece of rebar to the shape of the arm and weld it on. It doesn't look as cool but it works.

Did you have any issues with the chain touching under driving conditions where it passes through the bracing?

No touching anywhere.
I should have a close look to see how close it is though.

I hate to act like a new guy, but I am and I can't help it.

I'm guessing this is a performance mod to keep the swingarm from flexing during hard cornering, am I close?

it is.....it is to prevent twisting of the arms..due to.....power increases.......tire technology increases..even stock bikes with stock tires can be made to twist under heavy riding........and was used on early superbikes in the "bracing" of the stock swingarms.....welcome aboard.... and how about that green cafe Z sweeeeeeeeeeet....peaceCSRchopper wrote:
