81 KZ1000 fuses
20 Apr 2009 19:02
Hi there,
I'm embarking on a kz resurrection with a friend. The bike in question is an 81 KZ1000 CSR and while stored, a vandal removed the fuse cover and all of the fuses.... I don't know why
Can someone tell me what fuses are required for this bike? Let's say from top to bottom in the box? I suggested filling all of the slots with 15A fuses and hoping for the best but my friend is more cautious!
Added challenge, the bike is out of town so I can't go look at it very easily. We're going to put together a box of parts and tools and go rescue it in a couple weeks
Thanks in advance
Steve P.

The glass tubed fuses are the AGX type found at most good auto parts stores. I have a FI GPZ1100 B2 so I'm not sure about the fuse info being correct for what you have.
Can you look under the fuse block and see if at least three fuses are connected by a buss bar on one side? If so this may be a 30 amp main fuse. The rest of the fuses may be 10 amp rating. My particular fuse block has five fuses.
If you have a shop manual, it's possible to figure out what fuse ratings you need but you want to make sure as "smoked wiring" is not what you need now.

Thanks very much. I believe there is a clymer manual with the bike.
I'll inspect the box like you suggested to determine the main fuse and put 10A fuses in the rest.
If someone does have the same bike with a stock fuse box I would appreciate confirmation of the fuse Amp ratings, there are probably a couple 15A fuses in there

Hi again,
Does anyone have a moment to check out their fuse arrangement for me (preferably from a KZ1000). Is the main typically at the bottom or top?
Any suggestions about the fuse arrangement would be much appreciated. This weekend we're heading out to get this bike going!
Thanks very much

You should have 5 fuses in the fusebox beside the battery. the leftmost is 30 amp, the others are 10 amp. The 30 amp is connected to the battery, and there is an additional (2)10 amp fuse holder on a separate lead from the battery. If you get a clymer manual for 1000 & 1100 Fours 1981-1985 it will have a really handy color wiring diagram. I enlarged it to 11x17 printed several copies as I was checking my complete wiring loom. Good luck! Relax and enjoy the process.
