1st time prob=frustrated!!!!

Hey guys I got a problem,

I have a set of 36mm Mikunis on my 1105 and know they are sticking on high idle and then releasing. I have adjusted the cables, cleaned and sprayed the shafts with wd-40. Nothing has changed. It's acting like there is no shut off cable attached, but it is. And there is no bottom end when you crack the throttle,it dies. Almost like a vaccuum leak somewhere. I checked for that to.

PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks
Mike

you just answered your own question you have a major air leak at the intake boots. spray some carb cleaner or water anything realy around the boots and you will find your leak hanging up is a major symptom of this.

intake manifolds hard and cracked?
If so, time for new ones...

A trick I've been using with good results... Put some vacuum grease around the carb mounts for insertion into the boots... Seals them up nicely thus no leaks!

Yes OMR,they are weathered pretty bad. I sprayed them down with carb cleaner also timebomb, but no change. Maybe I didn't hit the right spot? Anyway, I'll try again this evening, but I'll put in my budget for new intake boots.
Anyone got any for sale??? I'll check Z1 or Clem's Kawasaki, there are close to where I live.
Thanks,
Mike

Dude. I was told that you get new ones as the gasket hardens to form a seal and every intake is different. Once the rubber has hardened it will not seal right on any other head position. What you could try is putting a little permagasket hi temp stuff on the back of the intakes and put them on with allen screws. But Plummen has a valid point. You are going to have to port the head to match the carb and get bigger manifolds. So a new set you will a be ordering and whatever else you will need. ;)

those big carb's will need 1000 j manifolds 81 and up and you can buy them aftermarket.

I put gpz 1100 manifolds on and matched my inlet ports to them, that stopped my high idle(used to idle high with big carbs and small ports, didnt need to take much out but it stopped it though.)

Possibly not carb-related.

Would also assure ignition advancer is properly functioning, and not hanging in advanced position for whatever reason.

Can use a timing light while engine's running to watch the advancer in action as it moves back and forth when the throttle is blipped. The change in advancer position should be instantaneous with changing rpm.

If sticking, sometimes a little squirt of oil will loosen it up. But it's usually best to remove it for cleaning, inspection, and re-lube with moly-grease.

Good Luck! :)

Just out of curiosity, why such BIG carbs on a 1105 motor?
Seriously, unless drag racing, 29-31mm is more than sufficient for that size motor on a street ride....

Question, in your signature, you had 34mm carbs listed, you still have them to install and test with?

Sorry guys,
They are 34's I must have FAT fingered the buttons and got in a hurry. Thanks for the catch OMR.
There is more to this besides the manifolds. I looked into it yesterday and found that they are sticking without running. Looks like a carb rebuild and new manifolds!!!!
I know the 34's are probably to big for the street also, but they were on there when I bought it and haven't changed them. It has been running good until a few days ago.
Thanks for all your input and advice,it has been greatly appreciated.
